Did you know that Google Maps lets you estimate the distance between places?
In this short article, I will show you exactly “How you can measure the distance between places using Google Maps”
You might be thinking about how this feature can ever be of any use for you? Right?.
As a matter of fact, this feature might come real handy if you’re planning to organize a marathon run and having trouble to find which place is exactly 42Kms from the starting point which should be marked as the end line for the race.
Even if you’re not organizing any events, this tool can be very useful in planning holidays.
Let’s say you happen to go on a cross-country trip on your motorcycle, in that case, you will need to plan ahead and should be prepared for every possible thing that can go wrong in a biking trip, one of those is fuel.

Coming back to the topic, In a long long trip like this, it is always recommended to carry extra fuel with yourself. But, now the question is how much?
That’s where the Google Map’s distance measuring feature can be found convenient. You can simply choose two locations and have an estimated measured distance between them, now all you have to do is divide that number with the mileage that your motorcycle gives, you got the estimated amount of fuel that will be required throughout the whole journey.
After receiving this info. now you can easily plan out the rest accordingly.
Now coming to the main part “How to measure the distance between two points in Google Maps?”
It’s too simple!
-
Open Google Maps on your desktop (Web version)
-
Right-click on the point from where you want to measure the distance from, you’ll see a lot of options open up among those, one of them will be “Measure Distance”.
-
Click on “Measure Distance” as soon as you will click on it you’ll see a circular dot appear on the point which you chose and a small dialogue box will appear at the bottom centre of the screen which says “Click on the map to trace a path you want to measure”.
-
After that, all you have to do is click on the point up to which you want to measure the distance and, voila! the distance between those two-points will appear on your screen like this.
You can also measure the distance between multiple points or in other words a series of destinations. All you have to do is to continue to click on all the places on the map you want to measure the distance to, from the start point.
The small dialogue box at the bottom centre of the screen shows the total area enclosed between the multiple points that have been selected and the total distance between the starting point to the end as well as the points in between the whole route.
