I am an avid Local Guide, trying my best to popularize and grow small businesses in my city. I got to know about the LocalGuidesConnect by “word of mouth” from my friend. I was fascinated by logging into and finding such a huge and enlightened community as a whole that works towards a single cause of making the world a better place.
Being new to the community, It’s my kind request to the other members of the community to give some advice/suggestions on being good at posting and getting a better each in the community. Even the small input from your side will be of great help. Thanks in advance.
Welcome. Let us know more about your interests. Are you a
Google Maps photographer
Google Maps Reviewer
Google Maps Editor
or
an eager participant in discussions here on Connect?
Also here is the standard welcome message:
Welcome to Connect. Nice to meet you!
To make you feel at home I suggest you take a look at Your Guide to Connect (it’s a quick introduction to our community) and feel free to introduce yourself here.
If you have questions, try using the search field at the top first. Then check the Help desk documents and What are Connect topics before asking a new question in the How-to section.
It is likely that one of the moderators will soon move your post to the monthly introduction thread that I linked to above.
You have received several answers about how to grow as a Local Guide, contributing in Google Maps. The most important for me is: be honest and contribute to help. We do not contribute for points, we contribute to improve Maps
Regarding Connect, here we share contents related to our Topics (What are Connect topics? ) and we try to do this in the best way we can, to engage with other Local Guides.
My first tip is to read posts written by others, and to see what you like more. There are a lot of Good post that are normally Featured on each topic, of highlighted on the Friday Favourites series
However, regarding growing in Google Maps, I would like to give you an extra tip. My tip will not help you to get more point, but you will grow as “real” Local Guides. Please avoid to add contents like this one, or this one, that are useless for the users, and also against the rules. One photo is enough, all the others are only a trick to get more points, and to drop down when Google will check them. Please delete all the duplicate and near duplicate photos
Hi @MortenCopenhagen , Thanks for the warm welcome. To be honest my interest is mostly inclined towards adding the small shops/businesses in the city which need an online name/brand to become more popular city-wide. Hence it covers the photography and reviewer aspects as mentioned by you. Other than that I would also like to be an active participant of the LocalGuidesConnect Since the Community helps us not only in growing as a local guide but also in becoming a good person as a whole.
The next step is to start working on your mission to add small businesses.
Also, please remember to make single edits only. That way you will get feedback so you know which of your edits are easily approved and which ones are more difficult. Practice the easy ones to build your trust score. That way the “Not applied”-syndrome will be less likely to kill your enthusiasm.
Please search connect for answers next time you need help. It is very very likely that someone else had the same question before you. If not, we are here to help you in the How-to section.
Not doing that will put your account at risk of permanent ban. Please read: What photos should I share on Google Maps? . At the end you can read: “Do you think you may have shared photos on Google Maps that go against ourguidelines, rules, andpolicies? Go through your photo contributions, remove any photos and videos that may be considered irrelevant or spam, and help others easily find useful information”
