How to find Google Maps Trending Lists?

Hi everyone!

Last week I found a list put together by Google with the most “googled” places in London. (Trending Weekly London)
I know I saw this for other major cities, but I can’t seem to find them - I actually can’t find the London List in the app (but I saved the link)

Does anyone know how to get these lists?
I’m interested to see if there are these lists for other cities in England or Europe (like Amsterdam or Berlin)

Many thanks in advance!

Thank you so much, @OscarAlcantara , for reporting this issue.

Lists were available in all the major cities of the world. Lists made by Google, and featured lists created by us.

I made a search in Maps, in some place where I was used to find these lists, and it seems all disappeared.

I don’t know if it is an issue (I hope so, because otherwise why to make lists?) or an intentional change.

I will tag @Bobiisha here for a check

Thank you!

Yes, hopefully they didn’t disappear or hide

Hi @OscarAlcantara ,

Welcome to Connect.

Please note that the Google Maps team is continually testing and learning about the features that are most engaging and helpful for people. From time to time, the team may make changes based on these learnings.

Thank you!

I cannot find public lists for any locations. I found a lot of other questions about this online, but only one answer, I found a photo & text tutorial, but I cannot get the same results on any of my devices. (Android & Windows). The tutorial specifically showed how it works on the Android Google Maps app, but it does not work with any of mine.

Supposedly, after searching for a location, and clicking on the details or tab that gives more info about the location, lists should show below. I tried many large cities, like New York City, no lists showed up, then I tried London like the photo tutorial used, and my search results look similar, but there’s no lists showing.

I wanted to create some public lists to help others, because I know how helpful they could be (I wish I could find lists for the area I just moved to), but why take time to create lists if nobody can view them?

Hi @chipnanna

You are right. The lists are not promoted or easy to find anywhere. Sometimes a few lists get featured, but I haven’t noticed this for a long time. And they are certainly not all featured.

I use lists to keep things organized on Google Maps for my own sake. And I made my 4 public lists private since nobody seems to view or benefit from them.

Google Maps evolve over time and I guess public lists are no longer high on the list (no pun) of priority.

Hopefully others will reply also since My opinion might not reflect the full picture.

Cheers

Morten

Hi @chipnanna

Scrolling the profile of a local Guide in the App you can find the Public lists created by the Local Guides.

And you are correct that, according to Create a list of placesLists that have the attributes below are eligible to be featured (featured lists can appear in the Google Maps Explore tab and other places across Maps & Search)

However, according to this reply by @MashaPSGoogle Maps team is continually testing and learning about the features that are most engaging and helpful for people. From time to time, the team may make changes based on these learnings”.

So, what I understand is that the list are actually not available on the Explore tab, but I don’t know if this is a permanent change or just a test.

But for sure Google Maps is addressing us to follow the Local Guides according to their contributions. At least this seems to be the message contained in New year, new features to connect with your community , where Google Highlight the Creator topics

To keep connect organised, I will merge your post to the already mentioned thread, to be informed about the evolution of the lists

Thank you for the info, much appreciated!

Thanks, I appreciate your help. The most frustrating part of this is reading about how the lists are supposed to work, seeing it shown, and then not being able to find any, which made me think I was missing something or doing something wrong.

I’m actually very depressed to hear that this was deliberately removed. I actually used the public lists in order to find local suggestions while traveling. I was hopeful that maybe Google would make it easier to find and use, but it seems they went the other direction and took it away. :disappointed:

I’m hoping it’s only a test, as suggested by @MashaPS
