I’m having a recurring problem with verifiable edits to the road network not getting approved. They’re usually not as major as the one below though. How do I get situations like this escalated when they happen?
Try using Google Maps to navigate by car to “98 Haymarket Square, Boston, MA” from … say … TD Garden. The last step in the directions will be to turn right from John F Fitzgerald Surface Road onto a side road, and the destination will be near the end of that.
Except, that’s not a road…it’s a bus platform in a transit station! That right turn is very clearly marked with a “Do Not Enter, Except for MBTA Buses” sign, which appears on Street View. (That sign is more tame than most of them, which usually warn about a $50 fine and cite Mass. General Law Chapter 90-16.) It’s actually quite troubling that there is Street View imagery through the entire length of this bus platform…because it certainly wasn’t taken by a bus…
I’ve tried to mark the busway as “closed” or “restricted”, but this was not approved. I’ve also entered in the route and reported an issue with the right turn in the navigation steps (following Google’s instructions), but this hasn’t fixed it either. I had to submit more than one edit just to get a name for a different street taken off of the busway on the map. I’ve been detailed but concise in the comment box in my edits.
How do I get this particular issue fixed? And more importantly, why are edits like this getting unapproved? I would understand if there’s just a long backlog and the edit remains pending, but I don’t understand why it’s getting denied. I would hope that comments like “it’s illegal to drive here” combined with signage in Street View would at least warrant a closer look. (The sign is still there; I just drove by it.)
Thanks for your help!
(By the way, I realize “98 Haymarket Square” pulls up a marker that doesn’t really have anything there. However, there was a marker for a parking garage in about this same spot until late last week, and following directions to it triggered the same issue. After at least four edits, I was able to get the marker for the garage moved closer to an actual entrance. However, I still shouldn’t be finding ways to get Google Maps to provide driving directions involving this busway at all.)
