I many countries an area or the country is bilingual or mulitlingual. In those countries it is very important that the names of the streets are entered correctly. If not the languages of the map will mess up.
- Select the language for the entering
The first thing You have to do is to select the correct language. That is not the language You personally prefer to use on Google Maps but the language of the name You want to enter. This is very important to note because if You enter under the wrong settings of the language the streetnames will be mixed up. Depending on the country or region there are different rules which name to use in international use. That is usually something that Google Maps runs in the background and You don’t need to worry about. For a bilingual area do not enter the names from settings English if English is not one of the languages of that country. Or like here in Finland do not enter a name in Swedish from the language settings Finnish. This is not a problem if the country is monolingual.
Click the menu up on the left
Click for a list of the languages
The highlighted name is the one You currently are using. Select the correct one from the list. In this case I select Swedish. Now all Your menues will be showing in the selected language. To enter the name first find the area for that road on the map and then
a) click menu again or click
b) feedback down to the right
2. Enter a name for an unnamed existing road
( I will turn to an English setting here that might make it easier to understand)
a) click the white section or sections that You want to name on the map to the right
b) up to the left You see that the road is unnamed
c) check Road name and enter the name into the box.
d) note once again that the language of the menues has to be the same as the language of the entered name.
e) when You are finished click Done
f) Submit when You want to send that information to Google Maps.
But if You want to redo or correct something before submitting click the bin and redo.
You can also add another streetname if You want to befor submitting.
3) Correct a false name
Find the street with the false name on the map. From the same menue You can correct a false name like this:
- click the street (red arrow)
- You see the present name up at the left. In this case a Finnish name is used for a map in Swedish but the offical name in Swedish is missing.
- Check the Road name
- Enter the correct name that is in the same language as the menues are
- Click done and submit.
Google Maps will then have to varify the name to their sources. And I have noticed that will take a lot of time. The result of Your efforts will gradually show up in the reports

5) Redo for the street name in onother language
If You want to enter the streetname in the other language You have to open Google Maps in that language - how to do that start from above.
Not done correctly corrupts the map
If this isn’t done this way the streetnames will show up very confusing and weird like this:
Red marker is wrong name in that language and green is correct:
That depends on that somebody has entered the Finnish and/or Swedish names from the wrong language settings and it turns out like this in the settings Swedish. Again red is wrong in this language.
The red marked names are not false names in Finnish but they are false in Swedish and the same problem then shows up for the other language. If done correctly the names of the streets should be no other than that of the menue itself. This is usullay not a problem for the more frequent used language as their maps usually shows more correct, but for the less used langauge there will be more problems with the names.
