How to enable the icons on desktop, which vanish after a page loads to offer a comment?

Vanishing_Icons.gif

Today, I observed some bizarre behaviour while a page to offer comment loads in Connect.

I noticed some extra icons for a fraction of the second & then these vanish altogether.
Above is a screen capture of the phenomenon, which would make that more clear.

Now, below are the screenshots of the vanishing and the balance stable icons.

I use the Google Chrome browser, 64-bit version, updated to 79.0.3945.117.
No further updates are available at least to me.

To remedy that issue, I followed the usual steps.

  1. Clear the history & cookies
  2. Disable all extensions.
  3. Enable all third party cookies.
  4. Use another browser viz. Firefox.

Still, no change.

Am I missing some useful functional feature & how to enable that?

@C_T I believe the font face, font color etc is disabled intentionally. That is to ensure posts in Connect have a uniform look and feel. We can however bold, italicize, underline and strikeout a text string, as you already know. One of the reasons possibly is to have post display evenly and clearly especially on small form factor devices like smartphones.

Hello @StephenAbraham

I do not concur with that reasoning.
Recently, the icon set got a modification to include the Emoji.
That was an opportunity to clean up the so-called disabled icons.
Then, why are those continuing even now, causing distraction?

Hi @C_T ,

I have seen the flickering menu before. Also on Android in the past. They are not problems I have seen lately.

I have to agree with @StephenAbraham that it is related to limiting our formating options relatively to how the standard Lithium software works.

It is no way near an elegant solution to put icons on the screen just to remove them milli seconds later.

I learned to live with this small inconvenience.

Cheers

PS impressive you were able to screen grab at the excate right moment.

Hi @C_T thank you for reaching out. From what others have mentioned, If you are online most of the time here you will see a lot of things that others may not see, sometimes the system might be undergoing some test, and that will be visible for a short period of time and go away after that, meaning that it might have been disabled. So keep that in mind, when you see something, give it sometime and see if it continues and run your basic routine of clearing your cache, then you can report it after that if it does not go away, and only if it hinders you from using the platform as normal, and that is from my experience, just like what @MortenCopenhagen has mentioned.

Hi @C_T ,

Thank you for reporting this to us.

We will look into it, and get back to you when have any information.

This is not something new. As indicated by @StephenAbraham , only a part of the editing tools are made accessible to the Local Guides, even if the whole set of tools is much wider, as the local Guides who were here before the transition to the new Connect know well.

Unfortunately in the past many Local Guides have exceeded in the use of the Formatting tools, making a lot of post literally unreadable.

The tools still present, even if not visible nor accessible, as they are part of the standard structure. For this reason, when the page load, sometimes they appear for a moment. The “customization” that is made on Connect is not “adding or removing” elements, but simply setting the visibility of them

That’s why clearing cache does’t work.

I don’t see a real issue in this, nor I can understand why this is “distracting” the Local Guides
