How to edit location type?

I took my kid to a park yesterday, and while the park is listed on Maps with the correct name, I was unable to add any photos, as the tab doesn’t exist, and there is no way to rate the park.

It seems like the park might be classified as something else, and therefore unable to have content added to it.

What would be the best way to go about suggesting edits for this? I don’t see an option through the Maps entry to do anything but ‘add a label’, which doesn’t apply in this case.

I use iPhone, so if this is a matter of something I can’t see because it’s unavailable on iOS (like the location questions), then I’ll get my spare S20 charging and use that.

Hello @JPaterson

I was at a museum last Friday as well, and it would seem that national places or historical monuments are like that. Local guides haven’t the option to interfere with the POI.

Nevertheless, the best way to report wrong information on Google Maps when you don’t have the option to suggest an edit is to send feedback in the app itself.

Hope this answers your question.

Cheers

Can you please share the link of the place, @JPaterson

Parks can be a geographical area, like rivers and lakes, where it is not possible to add contents, or a listing in Maps, e.g. a public park managed by the local administration.

Unfortunately this category can really confuse the people, so a link would be helpful for giving you a more detailed answer

Sure thing, here’s the link.

It’s a public park with several playground structures (as well as an open field and such). The construction work shown in Maps is long finished, and the area is completely open.

Hi @JPaterson and Welcome to Connect

While the location is named (perhaps on a different Maps layer) to me it looks like no one as yet has added the actual Place of Interest (POI) since construction of the park was completed. Therefore, I suggest you first try using the Add a missing place at that location (Category Park) then you should be able to give that POI your rating and add a review and photos to it. You should also then be able to similarly add, as a separate POI, the playground and any other facility that might be within the park. Do let us know how you go.

In the meantime, since you are new to Connect, you might like to have a look at Your guide to Connect. Another good idea is to introduce yourself in the monthly Community Introduce Yourself post.

Keep guiding!

Thanks for the info, I’ll give that a try next time I’m at the park, so that I can add photos and everything all at once.

Edit: Disregard the second part of my question, I made the grave mistake of not Googling before asking! Thanks again for the info.

Adding missing POI is not exclusive to Android @JPaterson . Also, as you have already been to the park and enjoyed the experience, I wouldn’t wait until you next go there. You could at least try adding it and give it a star rating now to see if my suggestion works and the advantage of this is that you will be the person credited with adding a new place (Places added) on Maps and get 15 extra points, otherwise someone else might get to do it before your next visit to the park. You can add the photos and a full review on your next visit

As you are fairly new to Connect you may not be aware about tagging, so please let me explain. When you leave a message or reply to someone it’s a good idea that you properly tag them so that they will get a notification of your message otherwise they may never know about or see your message. To tag someone, first type @ then type the first few characters of their name until you see their name in the dropdown list. Finally, select the person’s name. You will see that I tagged you at the start of this message to you. Many think that this is done automatically when you reply to someone but it is not.

Thanks for the link, @JPaterson

This place seems to be a note completely formed place, probably from the old (and no longer available) Map Maker program.

Best way to fix the issue is to send the link to the Google Maps community, for them to raise the issue to the Google Maps team.

Optionally, you can also send a feedback using Google Maps.

For more details you can read: Report an error on the map

@AdamGT Thanks for the info, sorry for the delay but a 2 year old is a handful sometimes!

I did add the location as a missing place, which Google has since approved and published, but I’m still unable to rate it or add photos, so either there’s a delay before those features are enabled, or that solution may not have worked for the issue.

And I’ll keep that in mind about tagging. Odd that the reply function doesn’t automatically notify the person, like the vast majority of forum systems out there.

Hi @JPaterson , I you go to your Contributions > Edits tab and click on the APPROVED you should end up where you can add your review and photos of the park itself and you could also add your review and photos of the playground here.
