How to draw roads in Google Map (Not in Road Mapper) so that it published quickly ???

Hi Experts,

After introducing Road editor on Google Map worldwide, I have started this much awaited feature and succeeded to published many roads in my region. Meanwhile, recently I have noticed that road edited through Google Map are either DECLINED (NOT APPLIED) or pending since long (more than 1 an 2 months). Meanwhile, I submit the roads edits through Road Mapper it approves within 2 or 3 days ??? Can you specify reasons. For knowing the reason I have tried one trick :

  1. I have edited one of road (like a beginner/Casually) through Road Mapper but in my surprise that was published within 2 days.

  2. I have edited the same road through Google Map (like a expert) but unfortunately that was rejected/Not Applied.

Here, the expert will advise me that the edit submitted through Road Mapper already published hence your edit submitted through Google Map could not be published.

It is fine but, when a submit the another road edit only through Google Map that too being rejected (Not Applied) but some other roads are being published (Approved). I am here (Google Map) since 2011.

This is why, I have leave to edit to submit unpublished roads in my region. As per Google Map rewards I am Level 10 Local Guide !!! Not sure where is the mistake ?? I have also noticed so many fake road (footpath) edited as Road (it seems to be wonderful works by Google Boats by using location history of Google Map users).

Lastly, there are so many Moderators (Connect) but they have no power to approve such edits. Road edits does not require much authentication as Satellite image is there. What do you all will advise me ??? Just waiting your reply and advise.

It is very easy to add a fake/spam feature but very hard/sometimes impossible to delete/remove the fake edit ??? Google Map Team should consider introducing Google Map Moderator once again (like RERs in the era of Google Map Maker).

Regards

Namaskar

Hi @HsRawal

While reading your post one thing sticks out. The Road Mapper is not an alternative to adding roads in Google Maps.

In Road Mapper you don’t get to decide the area. They are pre selected.

The purpose of Road Mapper is to train the AI to predict roads from sattelite images. Not really to add roads.

If a new road does not get accepted do save som screenshots of your submission and the status + some official maps confirming the new road in the Maps support forum.

Hit the Community tab at the top and make a post.

Cheers

Hi @HsRawal

This is quite normal. The approval process obviously has evolved by following the increased number of submissions. When I started to use the road editor for desktop, 14 months ago, I was almost alone, and most of the edits were approved in hours, while the average approval time was less than a week.

I believe the scope of opening the program to just a few people was a kind of preliminary test, to teach the AI about what to accept and what to reject.

With the opening of Road Mapper to all 150 million Local Guides, things have obviously changed, and necessarily the road moderation / approval process has also had to change.

  • With hundreds of pending edits I would be the first to benefit from a quick approval, however I understand that this is not possible. The numbers themselves deny that the possibility.
An activity of this size can’t simply be done by volunteers, for very good reasons:
Volunteers are, by definition, volunteers, that is, they moderate when they have time, and they cannot be expected to do it full time. Also, not all Connect Moderators add streets to Google Maps. I am one of them, and I personally have more than 2200 roads added. I do it because I like it, but not everyone likes the same thing.
  • Regional Leaders are part of a history of the past, when there were far fewer contributors than today. Most have done a great job, but the growth in the number of contributors has made it impossible to continue that way. Many have started to approve everything, without a real moderation activity anymore, and we are still seeing many of those errors, in incomplete POIs, non-existent roads approved, and so on. It was logical that Map Makers was closed, because the problems were outweighing the benefits

For this reason, even contacting Google Maps assistance every time we think that one of our edits has been denied unjustly means denying the reality of things. It simply wouldn’t be possible for Google to analyze all the reports, and even PEs would stop responding to these requests if they became thousands a day

Roads approval is not based on a “trust” system, but simply on the ability of the AI to confirm our edits.
So “being a Level 10” is irrelevant, in the case of adding roads. AI is constantly evolving, and it’s slowly improving its approval rating, but it’s doing so based on what it recognizes.

Personally what I’ve been doing since the approval system has been delegated almost completely to AI is to check in every possible way the roads I add to Maps before sending them, and reduce the edits to very short segments, dividing my edits. I try to learn from every “unapproved” road how to improve the information I send. This way my road approval rate increased a lot…

To try to help you more, can you kindly share some screenshot and link of some Not Approved Road?.

I am trying to build a post with some example that can potentially help Google to improve the approval process, and i think that sharing good examples could help

Thanks @MortenCopenhagen and @ErmesT for your suggestion/the related cause. Most of my road edits are more than 2 kilometers (single segments) that takes lot of precaution and alignment specially in hilly area. Road clearly visible, most of segments of a road I had submitted already approved but now either showing pending since long or declined. That is the cause of my frustration. @ErmesT I am sharing few link of the roads which are Not applied :-
