Claiming a business on Google Maps is a great way to make a connection with the customer.
And, people get a reply from the owner is a great thing also.
But there is some risk too when the business claimed by the wrong person.
Today I wake up in the morning and noticed a place claimed by someone. But, the place is a residential hall of the University of Dhaka. It should be claimed by the authority of the hall.
So, I send a message and I had a little conversation with the person who claimed. He told me that his business profile unconsciously added with the place. Now, he wants to disclaim the business and wants me to help him with disclaiming.

I never claimed a business. So I don’t know how to disclaim. How do I disclaim a business?
This could not have been a casual thing @Tanvir_Hasan claiming a business involves a confirmation phone call or a postcard sent to an address that the user then uses to validate their claim. This person will likely have done this intentionally.
@Tanvir_Hasan serious problem created, when someone claim unknown place. May be he done this accidentally or intentionality. @PaulPavlinovich useful post of you. I check your frud related post link. Informative post I guess.
Hello @Tanvir_Hasan and thank you for reaching out to us.
There is an option to Remove a location from your business listing. Once you remove a location, you’ll no longer manage it, but it will continue to appear on Google.
If a location never existed, is ineligible to appear on Google, or shows an incorrect address, you can request to have it removed from Maps.
You can request to remove a location even if you don’t manage it.
Mark the location as “Place is permanently closed or has never existed” and choose the appropriate reason.
Click Submit.
Once you submit the request, we’ll review your suggestion. You may receive an email about the status of your request and questions from our review team, if any. If approved, the suggested location will be removed from Maps.
Please bear in mind that I am going to delete the screenshot from your post because there is a personal information on it.
I understand what you are saying @PaulPavlinovich , and I have to disagree. In recent months I have seen a couple of panicking Local Guides that received emails that indicated that they had claimed a certain business and had no idea how that happened. So, we might actually be dealing with a bug in the system. I directed them to the GMB forum, as I decided it had nothing to do with Local Guides.
But I think you didn’t understand the problem. This place really exists and important too.
Someone accidentally claimed the business of the place. But, this is a public place (a residential hall of the University of Dhaka). Nobody but the authority can claim the business of the place.
I have talked to the person and he told me that he had no intention about that. He doesn’t know about google maps, FAQs, rules, etc. He just tried to check the thing (What will happen, what is claiming a business, etc…)
But, I agree with @JeroenM . You understood the problem. That person was not intentionally but accidentally had claimed the business. And I find it a great issue. If anyone can be able to do this easily then it would be a security issue.
As was explained by @Ivi_Ge , the person should be able to disconnect this location from his/her GMB profile. There is your solution to this particular case. If that not works and the potential issue with people being linked to businesses as if they claimed them, is still an issue for the attention of the GMB Team. I don’t see how that discussion fits here.
Hi @Tanvir_Hasan and @JeroenM this has got to do with edits, most local guides accept that they manage a business by mistake when they perform edits from businesses, from the email we recieve as confirmation, we are asked there if we manage that location and others click that, accepting they are managing while they are not, and that lead to this kind of issues. @Ivi_Ge can you please confirm this for me if its correct. Thank you.
Thanks, @JeroenM , and @PaulPavlinovich for valuable information. But what I actually wanted to know was disclaiming the business. It is a public place and of course, it exists. But somehow it’s claimed by a person which was not acceptable. Only the authority of the place (a student dormitory) should claim the business of it. @LuaPL gave me a satisfying answer.
Thank you, @LuaPL . I was looking for such an answer. I think it will work.
And I like to say to the GBM team to take it seriously. Some of the categories have a security issue. There should be more steps to claiming a business for some selected categories like a public university, student dormitory, park, hospital, etc. Thanks in Advanced.
