How to delete photos in the new layout?

In the help text on

https://support.google.com/maps/answer/2622947?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&hl=en

Remove your photos and videos

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app.
  2. Tap Contribute > Add Photo > Photos.
  3. Select the item you want to delete.
  4. In the top right, tap Remove (the garbage bin) > Ok.

I think there might be something wrong with the help text. This step by step recipe is not for removing pictures on Google maps. Maybe for removing pics on your device, but not on Google Maps.

Please check, @sonnyNg

Thanks

All official help center pages have their own feedback form.

It works.

Done!

I even got the chance to crop the screen image to show exactly the relevant portion of the help page.

Thanks, @JeroenM

Does any know if there is any easy way to delete a lot of photos on Google Maps. A method easier and faster than deleting them one by one. Can it be done via checkout or myalbum?

Cheers

Hi @MortenCopenhagen

I just made a test, and I removed two photos that I uploaded on a POI on 2017 making them private on my album. The photo disappeared immediately from the POI, and this is interesting, because when you remove a photo from Maps it took at least 24 hours to disappear. Btw, to confirm that, I believe that some more tests are necessary

Hi @ErmesT

What exactly do you mean by “making them private on my album”. Is that on this URL:

https://get.google.com/albumarchive/

I don’t see a folder for all my pics on Google Maps.

Thanks.

There is not a folder. The photos in there are archived by date / place / visibility

So you have to make them private one by one by pressing on the visibility status over the photo (on mobile)

I’m sorry, @ErmesT

I’m lost.

When you wrote:

“So you have to make them private one by one by pressing on the visibility status over the photo (on mobile)” are you referring to making them private one by one in the Google Maps app or is there somewhere else (another URL) where you can do it faster than finding and marking each and every pic manually in Google Maps?

Thank you so much for your patience.

I’m talking about https://get.google.com/albumarchive/ of course.

The photos uploaded on Google maps are saved one by one, on a separate folder, as you can see on the first screenshot

Tapping on a folder, you will open the photo.

The next one is public (Pubblico in Italian)

Tapping on Pubblico, you can made the photo private. But it is a long process, I never tried to delete photos, nor to do it on a batch. But for sure you can try, if you need in any case to delete your own photos

Hi @MortenCopenhagen ,

Thanks for reaching out!

On the first inquiry, I would indeed suggest to follow as you and @JeroenM have agreed upon sending feedback directly on the Google Maps Help page, should there be any improvement to be made on the content or instructions.

Regarding the second inquiry, for the moment it is unfortunately yet to be a official option to achieve that. Should there be any suggestion towards that regard, do feel free to share with us in the Idea Exchange! : ]

Hi @sonnyNg

Thanks for helping out. I did already report the help text as proposed by Jeroen.

Regarding mass deleting photos I will consider posting an idea later.

As a spin off I realized that the there is something very wrong in my setup. TorM showed me over the weekend how he can access all his Google Maps photoes in Google Drive. They are all in a separate folder to which they are added automatically as they are uploaded to Google Maps. That is not happening for me. I think it never worked for me.

Secondly using the album archive page as demonstrated by Ermes above is also not working for me. I don’t see folders for each and every photo uploaded to Google Maps as Ermes does.

My guess are that these two issues are some how related.

I’m hoping you could assist me getting this up and running or direct me to relevant instructions on this issue.

Several phone generations back when I first installed Google Maps I was by accident logged in using another Google account. So I figured that I might be able to find my google maps photos on Google Drev or Archive by logging in with that old account. Nope. They are nowhere to be found.

I believe this can be tricky to solve since I have already tried all I can.

My App store user skills are not amazing so we might have to start by determining what excately happened at the initial install. I at some point also use an iPhone as my primary device.

Would really appreciate help on this since I might be adding misreading content in my upcoming tutorial on making better pics for Google Maps because of this problem.

Would be happy to share other account names via pm with you.

Cheers and fingers crossed.

Morten

Hi @MortenCopenhagen ,

Thank you for taking time to check on the matter! : ]

It would seem that the situation would roughly be close to the one mentioned in the post Google Drive used for Google Maps!?.

As I am not solid on this, as would you have checked with the Google Maps [Timeline](http://Google%20Maps Timeline)?
