How to close an establishment to open a new one instead ?

Hello,

I wanted to close this place because it changed ownership and changed name, staff…

But everytime I try to suggest a modification it get instantly removed.

Is it possible to get some help here ?

I have found that the best way to do this is to not make the change by editing the existing business’ details but rather to close the existing business and create a new one at that Maps pin location. So on desktop:

Step 1 - For the existing business:

  1. Select Suggest an edit

  2. Select Close or remove

  3. Select Permanently closed

Step 2 - Then at that same pin location use the Add a missing place option and proceed to add the details of the new business.

Hey that’s what I’m trying to do ! I tried to close it but it got instantly refused, I already started to create the new one but it’s on hold.

The business you are trying to mark as closed should be marked as permanently closed only as the new business is opening there (as suggested by adam). On the other hand, until you are a listing/business manager it may not be easy to make changes. The listing is already claimed by someone else.

The new business can also be opened by using the GBP profile section.

Keep in mind that Pharmacies have a special status on Google Maps. Hospitals, banks, ATMs, and pharmacies are more protected against edits than most other categories. That could easily be what blocks you from closing it. Also creating a new pharmacy is often extremely difficult.

I would suggest you reach out to the new owners and encourage them to create the new pin.
