I’ve been wandering around Google Maps searching for how to change the moving image on the Google maps on my current apartment but it looks so impossible. The reason for writing this is that strangers find it difficult to locate my apartment because of the images shown on the map, which was formally updated in 2019.
Visitors like couriers drivers find it difficult to locate. The question is how can I replace or request an update on my apartment?
Lagos, Nigeria, is one of the fastest-growing cities in Nigeria and is also fast transforming into a megacity. So people are selling old houses and building a new ones. So how can how Google maps help to keep citizens up to date on a particular location?
You can add new photos. If they are better quality than the old ones, they are likely to be shown before the old ones. Pics are selected by a computer.
The navigation system in Google maps works according to addresses, and position of the destination pin, @Femimaestro , not according to the image in Street View. So the most important thing to do, for people to reach your home, is to have an accurate position of the pin.
Regarding the Street View image, as @MortenCopenhagen said, you can try to replace them by creating a new blue line. If the quality of your photo is high (better than the actual one) Google will probably update the blue line in street view using your contents.
Nice to meet you on connect. It’s good to see you getting quite active here and showing good interest on the maps. Am happy Ernest and Morten are answering your good questions already.
We have a very vibrant body of local guides in Nigeria. I base in Lagos but am in Port harcourt for now. Happy guiding
Nice sticker! It’s great to be part of the community, helping people get to their final destination is my area of interest. Is there any meetup for Nigeria @SholaIB I’d love to see more people get into this, Lagos is fast developing and transforming into a world-class city. We need to create a good experience for the populace.
