How to avoid the burnt sky in the photos.

When taking pictures of the landscape, the sky is often white without drawing, although in reality it is light blue.

This is the case if the dynamic range of the scene is higher than that of the camera.

We have several options to avoid it:

Use HDR settings.

This setting allows you to make a final picture of multiple shots with a variety of exposures to maintain the real colors in dark and bright areas.

Use gradual filters.

A gradual filter is a glass that has a top half darker. Placing it before the lens dims the sky and reduce dynamic range of the scene.

Use a polarizing filter.

This filter can darken the light sky and highlights clouds. It is the most used filter in landscape photography.

Use RAW format and expose to light.

In this case, we avoid the white sky by underexposing. However, the image is very dark, so we need to lighten it in the editor.

If we have an ideal weather, camera or a mobile phone can record a scene without burns as we see it with the eye.

Sometimes, the white sky will does not interfere, as it is in this photo.

The human eye is an extraordinary capture tool, much better than the camera.

It is up to the photographer’s creativity and skill to get a good picture.

Hi @SirB and @TravellerG

Thanks for kind comments.

In 2001, when I started taking pictures, the cameras had a small dynamic range.

I allways had to use filters for landscape pictures and shot to raw format.

Today it is much better…

Dear @KarolT ,

I fully agree with you… To some extend, even in today’s Cameras, needs filters for SPECIFIC effects, like LONG Exposure of waterfall during noon!, etc.
