How to add photos without it counting to your maximum allowable limit

Hi!

I remember reading an article some time ago about a way of including photos in full size to your connect articles without it counting towards your 1000 photos limit. I wonder if someone can help me out with the ‘how to’ of doing this. I tried to do it before but it failed. I wonder, if it was @TravellerG @ErmesT

Thanks.

Hi @MariaNgo

You need to use a tiny bit of html coding. I tried to explain the procedure here.

Best of luck

Thanks for the tag, @MariaNgo , yes, we already had a conversation about this subject a few years ago.

The procedure was first explained by Traci in this post: Tips for Uploading Images to Connect to Stay Within Limit.

The function is a short HTML code needed to embed an image from a source in the web. The image must be publicly accessible and, most important, must be yours.

The more common way is to embed an image that is stored in a shared album in your storage in Google Photos.

There are several ways to proceed. The one that I use is:

I’ve made an album only for Connect Only. The album is shared, so everything inside that album is publicly visible.

I select the photos that I want to embed and from the menu I choose “Add to album”

I select my shared album as the destination

Then I open the photo in the shared album and I copy the URL of the image

After that, on the HTML editor, I add this simple line of code:

, and I replace “IMAGEURL” with the URL copied from Google Photos.

Here below the result

Hugs from Italy

P.S.: the image here below is shared directly form Google Maps for desktop. The procedure is a bit tricky, but the result is nice

Thank you @MortenCopenhagen for this! Much appreciated at your prompt response.

@ErmesT Thank you so much for this post! You’re a gem! A brilliant diamond. Those steps you’ve outlined sound so easy even I can follow them - I think. I shall try them out with my next post.

Oh, and where did you dig that other jewel out? LOL I don’t think I’ve got that pic. Is that a 2018 or a 2019 event? :slightly_smiling_face: You are very cheeky indeed. But love it.

Now is there a place we can save a collection of helpful tips and build up a collection in this Connect platform?

@MortenCopenhagen Did I mention that I’m going to be in Italy sometime between 21 Sept and start of Nov? Itinerary to be confirmed. :slightly_smiling_face:

So many questions, @MariaNgo

I will start from the last one: Click on the three dots of the post and Bookmark it

The post will be then available for you on the “Bookmarks” tab under your profile in Connect

The photo is From Connect Live 2018 (the blue t-shirt is my preferred one)

Feel Free to download it (just right click on the photo).

On the next one (even if blurred) you have a larger view, and I am sure you can recognize some Local Guide, like @OmerAli , or @NatalkaR (just behind you) and many more

Here below the 360 photowalk

Now let’s move to the most important topic: Sept to Nov 2023. DM me when you have a plan, maybe you can arrive in time for the Wine Meet-up 2023, or for a welcome meet-up just for you. Looking for some Local Guide to guide you?

@ErmesT thank you for that solution. Lol. I must have been blind not to have noticed that before.

When is that wine meetup?

Hello @ErmesT

After 3 years on connect I finally know how to insert photos using HTML from this post. It’s very brief and well explained thank you.I have been using GIFs as well if you noticed my last few posts on TRAC

One last difficulty is I wasn’t able to write a caption like I do while inserting a photo directly. Please kindly explain, thank you in advance.

Happy guiding

Cheers

You are welcome, @MariaNgo , happy to help.

Wine meet-up will tentatively be end of October / beginning of November. A day has not been fixed yet because I am waiting for a confirmation about another activity, but I will post the meet-up ASAP.

Thanks @SholaIB , the simple answer is: You cannot add a caption on an embedded photo, because the photo is not stored in Connect. But of course you can add a description under your photos

That’s fine @ErmesT

Thank you for that answer. Still happy ro continue with it when possible. It’s a big help for the forum not to clog it with photos.

The quality and size of photo not reduced is a great advantage of it. Nevertheless the fact I have to pull out my laptop everytime to do that is not a wonderful advantage. I’m mostly on mobile for connect etc.

Happy guiding

Cheers
