Google made my life simpler since last 3-4 years, when I started using Google Maps for directions. It made me more confident to travel to new places across India alone. Not only I started enjoying it but also recommended to people I know. After every successful use, Google used to ask about my experience, which was answered casually by giving few stars and adding few photos here and there. However I started receiving notification, e-mails every month about the views which my photos have received. Slowly it helped me realize that it is helping others somehow.
With this I started adding reviews of the restaurants, hotels and many famous tourist places which could help others. Infact I made conscious efforts to explore new places for which reviews could be added and this is how a NEW LOCAL GUIDE was born.
One day I went to small cycle repair shop in my area and got my cycle repaired. The shop owner was a nice person and he not only repaired my cycle but also shared a few tips about how to keep the cycle in good shape. I quickly opened my Google Maps to give good ratings about this shop so that people know about it. I was astonished to see that this local 6-8 years old shop is not available on Google maps. At that moment I took few pictures of the shop and left for the mission to add this Local Cycle Shop on the Google Map. With little search on the Google, I realized it’s easy to add any new Place or Shop on the maps.
‘Sujeet Cycle Shop’ was added on the Maps and I conveyed the same to the shop owner during my next visit. He said, “Sirji I wanted to do this but was unaware how it’s done. Thanks (with big smile)”. That feeling of helping someone couldn’t be expressed in the form of words and it was just ‘Priceless’.
This also made me realize that lot can be done for these small shop keepers, fruit sellers, etc. who are not able to promote their business on Google Maps because being less technology savy and people like us can really change their world by bringing them to this side of the Technological World.
Giving my best to help small local business and contributing little towards the society.
