Hi everyone,
I’d like to share an interesting experience I recently had with mapping roads on Google Maps.
Lately, I’ve noticed a significant drop in my approval rate for road edits—to the point where almost all the roads I was working on were left pending. Because of this, I decided to switch gears and start adding new roads in regions I hadn’t worked on before.
As usual when entering a new area, I started by tracing the highway road and then drawing the local roads leading to villages or farms. However, I noticed that the highway road already drawn on the map was misaligned by roughly 10 to 20 meters compared to the actual path in reality.
Normally, I would manually adjust the alignment myself. But this time—fearing the edit might get rejected or take too long to be reviewed—I decided not to modify the geometry directly. Instead, I selected the road segment, went to Edit information → Other, and wrote: “The road on the map is not aligned with the actual road in reality.”
To my surprise, it took less than 24 hours! I submitted the report yesterday, and the approval came through today.
Key Takeaway: Google prioritizes highways and processes updates for them much faster. I say this because I spent nearly a year trying to fix an alignment on a local road by extending new paths. Furthermore, I have a support ticket for another secondary road that has remained unanswered for over a year.
