How painful when hours of road amendments rejected!

I recently amended a completely erroneous Sri Lankan road with half an hour effort. Unfortunately it was rejected by Google. All my effort was gone in vein. Actually amending a road needs more time than drawing. Roads of this part of Sri Lanka are not simple straight lines. They are on contour lines with many bends. Further more, thick tree canopy makes drawing a gruesome task. Hope Google see this. Thanks.

This is my second edit of the same road.

Road name Muduna Dullewa Road.

I am also facing same problem. Many edits rejected previously ,so finally decided to not contribute to Google map for correcting poor map. Those people don’t care about our time. They just watch satellite image and approve or deny without verifying entire work.

Hi @ajithkarunaratne

First of all sorry for your negative experience, an experience of rejections that I know very well.

I want to inform you that the subject of your post is not related to this board (Road Mapper). Road Mapper is a specific program for adding roads through challenges in selected countries only, while you are editing Roads using the Road editors. For this reason I am asking @AngieYC to move your post in How Tos, where more people will help you.

Regarding your edit, that checking Maps I can say is indeed correct, we need to keep a few things into consideration:

With the increased amount of people that is adding road, the approval process had to take some choice and to give priority to some type of edits:

  • The first priority is for new roads, especially in populated areas, because they are the more helpful edits. Simple edit with just a few segments are prioritized, because easier to approve.
  • Correcting a shape takes a low level of priority, because if the two extremity of the roads are correct the general function of the road is kept. Even if the shape is not perfect, you can in any case use that road for navigating from point A to point B.
  • Everything not approved in 90 days is rejected, not because it is wrong but to avoid keeping a pending status forever.

Personally I always associate a shape correction to a road addition, and in this case, as the priority of new roads is higher, also the shape is approved.

In any case I see that you have already more that 2000 roads approved, so Congratulations

Hi Friend,

Thank you very much for explaining me approval process. I can understand how big the volume of input by various local guides all over the world. Hope Google would positively consider my amendme soon.

Thanks again for your lengthy informative reply. I’m always committed to add and improve the road map of my country. I know it will help the country’s economy by lowering the transport cost and improving confidence of the tourists coming to my country. Unfortunately a big amount of points (Probably 5000) also withheld by Google for no reason. Please take into your consideration too.

Thanks.

Have wonderful day!!!

I’ve been following the progress on this road and made few edit attempts myself too. Happy to tell you there seems to be partial success in the area.

The beginning of the road is now in the correct place and street view doesn’t have a gap there.

Also got this corner fixed in the next road

This part had a bend very far from the actual road, now it has been replaced with a straight part.

I did new edit on the road hoping the get the last curves to follow the actual road, but so far it’s looking way better.

The dotted line is how the road looked before

And here’s the current status

Hello @ajithkarunaratne ,

Please be advised that I am moving your post to How-tos as it fits better there.
