How much freedom for Local Guides?

How much freedom do the Local Guides have? Like giving their feedback of a place or service?

Can they give an opinion about a doctor’s office, a lawyer, a hospital? Or give up those places otherwise, they may sue them.

Hi @SunshineNY !

Local Guides are free to make reviews or upload photos of every place they go, but always being respectful, avoiding the inclusion of personal information in your reviews and following all the program rules. You can read about them in the following post Local Guides Program Terms and Conditions.

Just as a suggerence… if you are going to include some kind of bad critics in your reviews always try to write it in a positive way trying to point things the business can improve instead of just complaining.

Hi @SunshineNY

As the Contents policy does not exclude a doctor’s practice, lawyer’s office and hospital from being added on Google Maps, it follows that you can add reviews of same however, the policy is clear that contributions to Maps should accurately represent the location in question and must be based on real experiences and information.

Did you find some businesses without the option to add a review?

Don’t expect Google to help you legally should you post a review that violates what you can do legally in your country. We are responsible for our reviews. So if you are very upset about a service or product please sleep on it before posting a revenge review. Learn more here: Common Review Violations

Hello @SunshineNY ,

Lots of positive replies are here, let me add mine one also here.

As a local guide, freedom is up to you. You know where to ask for photos and where it is not needed, but it is always recommended asking before taking one. About reviews, I’d recommended the reply by @Cecilita and the second paragraph of @MortenCopenhagen reply.

About violation, it is good practice to write genuine reviews where you have personally visited and experienced the business/listing/POI.

Hope that will make sense.
