How many are trilled about the new features on maps?

Hello world, some great things are happening on Google Maps but before you explore, I would advice you first update you app. I am currently on version 10.16.3 if anyone knows of a more advance version please do share. I know you are all curious so let me get to it.

Tag & Earn points

When you navigate to your contributions tab after the update, you will notice there is a new and fancy tab that prompts to add photos and reviews. Mine is labeled beta meaning this feature is still under the testing phase. I know this is nothing new but once you click on it that’s when the magic happens. You will notice there is a new feature that allows you to tag a dish and earn points. To all the food and photography lovers this will entice you to keep up the good work!

I am not sure if this will be available to everyone considering it’s a beta version. If the update doesn’t work, here is an alternative way to signup to explore the beta version in maps to choose to explore this beta version.

Create public events on Google maps

I recently saw a number of public events on Google Maps which are very local and I knew someone here created them. After reading about it I noticed that if you go to maps, under the contributions tab you are supposed to see a feature that allows you to do this. Sadly I tried updating maps but still am unable to do this, my assumption at this point is that my phone is not compatible with this feature. I however posted it here because I think this might be a great way to inform the public about our meetups. Here is a photo of the local event I saw.

Yes you can now access Maps and your contributions straight from local guide connect

Wow! This absolutely blew me away guys. No more headaches of opening a million windows and going back and forth.

Normal Google Maps vs Google Maps go

Google maps go is meant to utilize less data than normal maps just like YouTube go if any of you have tried it. I have not tried it personally, my experience with it was when I was recently helping a business owner add her hardware to maps and she was using Google Maps go and everything worked just fine. Anyone with more knowledge and experience I welcome your thoughts.

@ahadilugo thanks for sharing this great piece of information.

For sure have been fearing to install Maps Go thinking that it is a bug.

But with this I now have wide info about the features on Maps.

@Kousalya that’s really great, I can’t wait to hear about your experiences with the new features, if you discover something new or a different way to explore these new features please feel free to share.

@KaliroAlex I have been so scared of downloading the go version because am not sure how stable it is considering it’s fairly new but am thrilled to learn more from you especially learn if this app truly consumes less data. Please also share your experiences on our local guide community on FB so that we see if we can encourage the other members to try.

@ahadilugo I think the Maps Go App is meant for those planning to navigate but not Local Guides who are sharing information.

Yes it uses less data since runs in Chrome background.

Surely for me have not liked the app.

Thanks for sharing this informative article with us, I love the new feature where you can create an event on maps… Slowly maps is going to be come more than just a map… It’s going to be a social media with maps in it.

Absolutely hate this beta. The UX is so hard to navigate and doesn’t let me add reviews and photos all together. It also doesn’t show me my photo or review history so I can see my top content. I’m a level 8 with over 10,000,000 views of content and this new beta is way too hard to use. If they push this as their main platform I’ll stop using local guides.
