Hi, my name is Andrew. In this post I want to share my thoughts about Local Guides program and why it is important.
Nowadays it is hard to imagine our lives without technologies. Things that seemed impossible not that long ago are existing now and everyone has access to them. One example of such things is Google Maps. Who would ever thought that the whole world will be right here, in your pocket. For years Google team has been working hard on the product to make it such a great and helpful tool. But we must understand, that this tool is not sufficient by itself, without a community that will support it and maintain continuous data flow to keep the virtual copy of our world up-to-date. Moreover, it is a platform for sharing experiences and impressions, which makes Google Maps such a cool thing. Software cannot go to a local pub and taste a beer, it cannot take a beautiful shot of a sunset over the sea, this is where the Local Guides community comes into a scene.
I use Google Maps all the time. If I plan to go somewhere, I read reviews, watch pictures, and this affects my choices in a good way. Information I get from others through Google Maps makes my life better. The idea of mutual exchange of opinions and other information about certain places became fascinating to me and I decided to contribute to the community. I believe, that everyone should not only absorb the information, but also create and share.
I feel happy to know that my contributions are useful to people and help them in some way. Once I was preparing to move to a small town in Germany for my internship. I wanted to see how the town looked, but surprisingly, there were no pictures of it in Google Maps. Many students come to this town every year, and I am pretty sure most of them are interested, just like I was, to see the place. So I decided to make some panoramas and post them. I was surprised by how many people watched them in a short period of time just after uploading. I enjoy posting pictures, writing reviews and answering questions, because I know that my contribution is a tiny part of a huge information cloud, that will always exist and help others.
Thank you for reading my post and I hope it inspired you to join!
