On October 12 2014, my eyes were greeted by the bright light from the rising sun as I was preparing to set off with friends for a road trip to the western part of Uganda. We were going to some place deep in Kabale district, which was hardly available on google maps. Being adventurous, we were convinced that ‘luck’ would lead us safely to our destination. It was a long trip of 6 hours from Kampala to the south-western part.
Upon arrival, we decided to ask around for directions to our destination, however we could hardly speak the local language. Furthermore, local residents who could speak English were not sure of the exact location of the place. We took a huge gamble based on the little information we had collected but the price we had to pay was hefty. We got lost several times and at one point felt like giving up on our quest after draining all our energy. Finally, after some good hours of meandering around, we were able to reach our destination.
This experience caught my attention and out of my free will, I decided to join the local guide connect program. I started sharing reviews for several places I had been to as a way of helping many travelers to have an informed opinion. This not only saves time, but allows a traveler to make the best decision. Furthermore, it helps the owners of such places to keep up the best standards else they stand to lose business.
The travel experience keeps getting better and better with this beautiful program.
