I was a resident of this so-called city, Kirulapana and left it for nothing but to escape the rustic urban life. But it doesn’t mean the city is so-busy and you can’t own your little space of living. Of course you can! We did it, when we were living there a year ago. This story I am sharing with you is a generations ago folklore and I heard it from my Thaththa(father).
Folks, or urbans tell back then when sky-crapers were not built in Sri Lanka, they could have a glimse of Sri Pada(Adam’s Peek). Well this is something visible to you when you move further into the country. But Kirulapana is 43.1 miles away from Sri Pada and it is technically very impossible with hill country in between those two cities.
But believe us, we are Sri Lankans, and most of us Buddhists (we lived in harmony in Kirulapana with all other religions, even when people call it a war-time) have stories of miracles. I won’t judge, because my personal view is kind of similar(Why not believing, when it is visible).
So the Sri Pada, mountain which is 7,359 feet in height is like a Kirula(Crown). A crown usually is on the top, or the top of our head. Therefore, this Kirula(Crown ) was visible(In Sinhala, pene) in the mornings to the this city we’re talking. Hence the name formed “Kirulapene” (Crown is visible) and with time it was formally called; Kirulapana.
This is how they say the name was formed. But in my time, I was not lucky to catch the glimpse of Sri Pada from Kirulapana. That’s mainly because of city that is now having several skyscrapers
in the center of it.
