How is Orissa (Odisha) surviving the ignored Attitudes #CycloneFani Diaries

Hi Locals,

Puri (Orissa) is popularly known for attracting tourists, more than Goa, for number of reasons like Jagannath Yatra which is famous amongst Iskon devotees, Konark Sun Temple, Craft Village and good sand at Beaches. However, this beautiful town was hit by CYCLONE FANI last week, and sharing my bit of how it is None’s concern to restore things there.

It was worst cyclone for Puri in last 20 years. Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri has gone dark. The electricity they are getting is calculated and they get it for only about 3-4 hours a day, that too after 4 days of cyclone. No drinking water, No connectivity to internet or hardly any signals in the phones. Transport is not yet back on roads since roads are blocked by trees, and the roads have narrowed. Perhaps this the most severe cyclone that has struck us since the last two decades. Winds crossed at the speed of 200 kmph. This state is also bleeding. Have you thought of Donating to CM Refief fund yet?

My colleague is the local eye witness since they own the beach resort in Puri. Windows of most rooms are broken due to the speed of wind and carpets of 5th floor rooms were found lying on ground floor, windows and even roofs were broken to the level that sofa of Restaurant flew from restaurant crossing the pool and landed in Spa across the pool breaking all windows. The makeshift games room is not seen anymore as if it never existed and so does the PS4 and XBOX (Wondering where does wind finds it game play). Can only imagine the speed of wind. I asked if I can help in crowd funding or donation or by any other way, and the boy only said you help in promoting name once they restore everything and donate in CM refief fund. What an UN-SELFISH upbringing…‘Dil jeet liya ladka ne’

The state stand tall and taken preventive measures by controlling the death toll to only 40. Appreciate the state police, state govt and the state disaster management team who acted proactively and ensured people are evacuated on time and physical damage doesn’t occur.

Here are few observations:

  1. Every National Media House which covered Odisha extensively for Election were nowhere to be found. No flash news. No updates, no prime time, no breaking news.

  2. Every local media house risked their reporters in the eye of the storm, where they could have lost their lives. Hats off to their courage but real stupidity by the channel owners.

  3. Is Odisha just a differential vote region?

  4. Indians pour their heart and money out for Notre Dame in France, Floods in Chennai and Kerela but nothing during Odisha all over the years because it just another oppressed part of Bengal.

  5. No contribution messages in various Apps.

  6. Not a single message/tweet from the ministers at the centre. Maybe Odisha is back to being Non-existent as the elections are over.

  7. Extremely amazing work by the disaster management team throughout the state to keep the casualties low in number. The entire team, along with the police and a lot of workers of the ruling party have helped in clearing the road post cyclone.

Kudos to Andhra Pradesh who is providing lot of help, and has sent 800 people to help, but with only 2 hands and without any machines. Seriously world, are we back in the 80’s? But Kudos to Odisha (India) which has shown the world, without crying for help, how to overcome disasters and take timeline precautions in case of severe calamities. One can learn to battle own worries without anyone’s help.

Anyone who wishes can make donations to CM Relief Fund Odisha.

Be Brave. Be Proud. Live the Moment!

Thanks for this post. Yes, neighbouring states could have responded with manpower and equipment to restore the broken infrastructure in Odisha.

My salute to the teams involved in restoring normalcy.

Last but not the least, contribution to Chief Minister Relief Fund is a noble act

True @nshantin

precisely that’s the point, where is the humanity? Should only the neighbouring states help? What about United india?

The mentioned hotel is helpless, since there is no help available anywhere m. Everyone is busy remaking their own houses. Maybe few NGO can help.
