How I told people about my village

Hey guys,

My name is Sonam and I belong from a very remote place in Nepal-Sindupalchok. I was born in Nepal but I was raised in Ladakh-India since I was just 8 months old. I’m 21 years old now and I’ve visited my village just a couple of times. Many years back when I use to search my place in Google maps, I remember I had to spend half an hour dragging through the maps to find my place and still won’t get it and I had to enable satellite mode and go through the routes and finally reach my village, because my village was not mentioned on the map. Then after a few months later, I got to know about Google Streets. I enjoyed watching places in 360° and once I took a 360° image of my village from google streets app and uploaded it, and a few months later I had a mail from Google that said “Congratulations! your photo has reached 300k views”. Rarely 100K people have ever been to my village because there are no roads for vehicles to reach my place, even I had to walk and hike 15kms all the way from the last Bus stop. The fact that the place where people have rarely been being viewed by 300k people from all around the world and which continues to increase fascinates me more than anything and from then onwards I continued to upload photos and review places in Google maps.

And I believe that I’ve been able to introduce and let 300k people experience the beautiful view of my village.

And I believe that this would someday bring people to visit my place.

I shared the story with my friends about the 300k views to my picture and they also started to upload beautiful places in Ladakh and they had 1M views, which now has started a competition among us to upload the best pictures.
