2 years ago, after a car accident, I acquired some mobility issues and a neurological condition. Prior to this, I had been very active with my young family and we would go out a lot with the kids and enjoyed seeing new things together. After the accident, I started noticing that a lot of places are not exactly disability friendly. Add in some food intolerances, and suddenly we’d be walking into a cafe or venue then straight back out as I couldn’t eat there, and sometimes couldn’t physically get in or move around with my crutches.
I tried googling local menus to see if there would be food I could eat, or easy access for wheelchair/crutches and didn’t find any information easily.
I decided to review a place after being delighted that there were delicious gluten/lactose free options, easy parking and we had a family outing that didn’t end in disappointment. When I realised how often other people were looking at the review, it occurred to me that I could make life a little bit easier for other people who still want to have fun and go out and enjoy their town. After all, Canberra is a beautiful city to live in!
Since then, I’ve made it my goal to get to as many new locations as I’m able, scope out the venue for families with young children, disabilities or food intolerances and I’ve developed a new hobby that is making the best of a bad situation.
