How I started reviewing as a Local Guide

I have been using Google maps since their existence and a lot, but never felt reviewing others. One day I ordered a cake from a local shop and got so disappointed that I decided to leave a negative review so that other can see and the shop owner should start taking his customers seriously.

After couple of years I got a notification email about this program and that I will get some points, and that day I decided to give ratings to places I was visiting, not knowing what this program is and how beneficial it could be for everyone using Google Maps (and I strongly believe everyone is now using Google Maps).

Until last year in October 2019, I decided to upload some pictures while giving reviews. As a regular traveller for last thirteen years I have huge collection of pictures across the world which I have taken with my mobiles. So I started and that was the turning point for me as a Local Guide. I noticed my pictures and reviews are getting attention and people are benefiting from it. It motivated me to contribute more and more and now at the time of this writing, I am at level 6.

I loved this program because it made me realise how much we benefited from Google maps for free and now it’s time to return the favour so others can benefit more than us.

Thank you Google for such a great step!!! Hoping to make 2020 a year to connect with the community to share ideas, stories and contribute as a community

Thank you everyone for feedback. I never thought i will ever share my pictures on maps or on IG. They are just for my personal collections and mostly taken with mobiles, but now i have started sharing them on maps as will as on IG. You can have a look at them if you want. But in future, I will take photography seriously and will keep you guys updated with cool pictures :slightly_smiling_face: my personal collection of pictures is at 100 GB only

Can anyone guide me how can i follow other local guides :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi @holidayclicks ,

the follow feature is not yet rolled up worldwide to everyone, it is slowly getting enabled all around the world. If you don’t have it yet it will soon come to you as well.

You can find more information on the How do I follow other Local Guides on Connect specific post.
