Though this story is old but it will tell us how local guides can themselves reach to people and institutions to add them on Google Maps and make lives of people easy. This story is about one of the famous institution of Meerut region which is part of Uttar Pradesh state in India. I was studying Engineering at that time. So we used to go to this location for our exams. I had learned how to add places on Google Maps. I used to work on Map Maker then. I was so excited to map all important places which i used to visit. This college being an important college was not listed on Maps as nicely it looks now in photos.
We used to go to this college as this used to be examination centre of our university exams. As those days I was working dedicatedly on Google maps to bring every important feature on maps, I was myself looking for opportunities. So I myself reached to this college administration that I am one of the person working voluntarily on Google Maps to improve the mapping of important places. I told them Google wants that places should look beautiful on Google Maps. I was working apparently as a Google representative by the way i was convincing them.
I told them all advantages of being on Google maps like how it makes easy to find your institutions. I showed them maps of other established institutions as well so that I can bring the comparison thing in their mind. So being a local guide sometimes you have to convince people. At that time, Not all were aware of advantages of being on Google Maps. Now the whole situations is changed. People mostly in all Indian cities use Google Maps so much that I feel proud of this community.
Few things I kept in my mind while mapping this place were as following:
- While mapping I considered it as one of my masterpiece project.
- Before starting with actually adding the places, I walked around the whole campus for around 4 times so that I can precisely visualise what to add exactly where.
- I asked for exact details from administration so that accuracy and detailed picture comes out.
- Keep an ideally mapped location in your mind so that you can achieve your best.
