How I added Vaccination centers in Ukraine

Hello friends.

I want to share with you my story of how I helped fight Covid -19. Unfortunately, in our country, information on the Google map is not published so quickly, so all hope was only on local experts. My friends who had access to official information on the Covid Vaccination Centers posted a request on our local group to help add this information to the Google map.
I volunteered to help in this necessary matter. Since I am an experienced map editor, with more than 9 years of experience, I understood what difficulties I might face. At the start of adding objects to the map, there were no problems with publications, but the more I added, the more I accumulated POI, which remained on confirmation. POI confirmation could be up to 30 days…
Therefore, my friends created a Google spreadsheet where I entered information whether the POI was published or not and a link to the POI from the map. Those points that were not published immediately, but remained on confirmation, I marked with a marker. At the same time, another global problem of the map in our country was being solved, this is the lack of street names and postal addresses on the map. I had to analyze a large number of regional sites and information resources in order to understand where this or that center was located. Everything went very slowly, Google somehow decided according to its algorithm whether to publish a point or not … I added a small number of new POIs per day so that there were no problems.
After two months of work, more than 50% of the objects were published, but there were still objects in my table that did not want to appear on the map, I began to think about giving up this struggle, but decided to take a two-week break and wait for a response from Google on objects, that were added earlier and make the final decision…
And then a miracle happened, I was able to add more than 10 objects without sending objects for approval. I decided to go back to the old objects that were still pending, and they were also added without any problems. This gave me hope for the fulfillment of the task, which was successfully completed.
Results, more than 500 vaccination centers were added throughout the country, about 200 new postal addresses, more than 300 POIs were edited (POIs, on the basis of which these centers were opened: Pharmacies, Schools, Local Administrations, Cultural Centers, etc.). Also, I was able to visit about 20 Centers and add photos to the Google map.
Now almost every day I get reports from Google maps “You helped **** people find out about this place.” I am glad that I was able to complete the map with useful information and help a very large number of people find Vaccination Centers.

Ps. I apologize for my English, Google translator helped me

I made screenshots from my different phones, so there are differences in the picture.

Hi @Dmytro_Ya

I understand that the situation is not the same in Ukraine as elsewhere.

But I wondered if you know about the Google Maps program enabling local and regional partners to upload their data directly and automatically from a spreadsheet. Please learn more here: Google Maps Content Providers

Examples include municipalities and public transport providers.

This is the way covid places are added and maintained by the health authorities in many countries.

This makes it possible to open and close centers and change the opening hours with short notice since such details do change a lot over the course of a pandemic.

I’m don’t know if this service is available in Ukraine.

But hats off for your huge effort. Very impressive.

Cheers
