How Helping Others Helps Me

My career as a travel nurse has lead me all over the country, especially the West Coast. Coming from Alabama, I have had to plan everything I do and explore using Google Maps. I stay in one area for a few months, thoroughly getting to know the town before leaving for somewhere new. My unique viewpoint as a long-term traveler lets me ask myself everywhere I go, “If my friends or family came to see me, would I recommend this place? If I was coming here sight unseen, what would I want to know?”

While I know that writing down my experiences and recommendations helps communities and businesses grow and adapt, it’s also helping me personally by highlighting what I really look for in an experience. Is it the ambiance of the cafe on an early Saturday morning? Or do I prefer the hustle and bustle of a diner on a weekday? I’ve learned so much about myself and my travel style through putting my thoughts into words on Google Maps, and look forward to continuing to make a difference for others, too.

Nice post @baileyhoffman - perhaps adding an image or two will give it a bit of exta ‘zing!’

@baileyhoffman We, too, travel all the time and change locations about every month! I like your thoughts on how you look at places to review. I’ll have to think along these lines as well :slightly_smiling_face: I’ve highlighted your post and profile on the Local Guides USA Facebook group.

Let’s build a US community of Local Guides, I’d like to suggest that all of us add #LocalGuidesUSA to the text of our Connect posts. With this text in the posts, everyone will be able to find all of the USA based activity on Connect with this search.

Keep up the great work!!!

That’s a great idea! I’m still new to all of this - I didn’t even know I could add a photo!
