How does a tourist attraction on maps have a website?

Hi,
I would like to inquire as to why a general tourist attraction can contain a website and how to remove it.
I tried removing the URL/ website but it says “Not Applied”
This is a bit like spamming as all of the tourist attraction on our area on Google maps contain the same website making it look like an official website for all tours in Zimbabwe/ Zambia. Even if it’s not a tourist attraction, a location comes up as “Victoria Falls Activities” shows a website that points to a newly created site. And almost all these places are showing in Google Travel Guide

Example:
Victoria Falls Activities
Victoria Falls Packages
Game Drives Victoria Falls
Safari Victoria Falls
Ecotourism Safari Victoria Falls
Walk with Lions Victoria Falls
Devils Pool Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls

Guided Tour of Victoria Falls

How do we keep these places from getting added on maps?

Tagging Google Moderators as I can’t find any answers about this problem: @GeorgesHR, @KlaudiyaG, @NadyaPN, @MarinS, @Ivi_Ge, @MashaPS, @JavieraAu , @FelipePK , @IrrPavlova, @DeniGu, @Sorbe, @AngieYC, @InaS, @VasT, @AlexaAC, @TsekoV, @sonnyNg, @DanniS, @MoniDi, @Petra_M, @KatyaL, @MortenSI, @RadieN, @Aruni, @VitB, @MoniV, @LilyanaZ, @BorrisS and @PoliMC.

Thank you!

Kind regards,

Hello @TatendaTarzan

Welcome to the community,

Surely every places can have website if they have a management staff with a website. This is also applicable for Tourist Attractions.

For example Eiffel Tower or Dubai Eye. These points have website because they have management with official website and having website help users to reach more info about the place and to contact with staff better.

So no problem to add official website of one place (in this case tourist attraction).

But I should also emphasize that in some cases tour and travel agencies doing spams on tourist attractions and add their websites to reach more visitors and costumers. This is something against the rules and you can report the issue to Googlers if you see such spams in huge number. But for individual cases you can easily change the spam website to official one or if the places has no official website or even official social page then you should totally remove the inserted website address from website field.

I’m not sure because I have no local info but due to a little check, it seems the website you mentioned is spam one and needs edit based on your local info. So if you’re sure this is spam website feel free to remove it or replace it with official one.

Also please note that tagging only one moderator is enough so in future please prevent from tagging more than one

Thanks

Thanks for reaching us. @TatendaTarzan

It seems you already know this post about how to report a Local Guide: How to identify and report fraud on Google Maps

In there is indicated to tag a moderator, not to copy/paste a list, on this way the system will not sending any notification.

I am tagging @DeniGu for you.

In any case, I agree with @Amiran , if you have to pay a ticket, that one can be the official website.

In addition, I would like to invite you to change your profile photo and name, as it appears to be a business profile. Business activities are not allowed in Connect, that is a program for individuals only

Thank you

Hi @TatendaTarzan , @Amiran has given a very detailed answer to your question. One thing I’d like to mention that copying moderators or other uses name and pasting in posts doesn’t trigger a notification. So always search for user(s) and tag them.

Thank you!

Hi @TatendaTarzan ,

Thank you for reaching out!

Since you have already marked the locations as ‘Spam’, please allow some time for your suggestions to be reviewed and acted upon. Feel free to get back to us if the issue persists.

Make sure to tag me or any of the Google Moderators by writing the @ mark and then typing the name, so that we can easily find your reply. Thanks!

Thank you for the tag, @ErmesT , and thank you all @Amiran @ErmesT @SaifIS for your helpful comments!

@TatendaTarzan Sorry but I see there is a misunderstanding here.

I told only “website is spam” not the whole point! You should only remove website from the place not mark the place as spam!

There are many reasons may cause not applied or pending but this is the way system works and you can easily repeat a correct edit if you got not applied. Check this.

Although the point may consider as spam because also names of mentioned places contain spam and keywords but in such cases when points have photos and reviews from visitors (not from staff of a spammer tour agency), best practice is to rename and move all points to correct one and merge them with main point to prevent from missing data. I highly recommend to note to this for future edits.

Thanks
