I’m having a hard time figuring out how to use an Android phone to log out of what I think might be Google Local Guides (I usually use a laptop). I was trying to figure out how to edit a review I left a long time ago, couldn’t seem to figure out how to log in (although I was logged into my YouTube account, which I think is usually all it takes for me to be able to edit a review). I tried LIKING my review to see if it would take me to a login screen. I think it then asked me to add an account, which I must’ve done, if I remember correctly. I was then able to edit my review, but now, I can’t figure out how to logout, even though I logged out of my YouTube account and refreshed the page, I’m still logged in and able to edit my review. In trying to figure out how to logout, I ended up at the Gmail app, and removed an account from there, but that didn’t help. I’ve also googled how to log out of Google Local Guides, but only find info on how to close the account, which is not what I want to do. I also don’t want to have to delete the browsing history to log out. How do I properly log out? I’m not even sure what forum I should go to for help. I thought I was posting in the How To forum.
Hi @MarkFleener
Thank you for asking
tap on Google Maps Menu > Setting > scroll down to “Exit from Google Maps”
After going to Settings, it only showed Google Location Settings, Privacy Policy, and Terms of Service. I still can’t figure out how to log out. I found a place where I was able to select SWITCH ACCOUNTS, which let me log out of something, but I’m still not logged out of where I can edit my google maps review.
Here is the detailed progedure @MarkFleener
Man, I don’t know how I did it, but I found the other Settings menu you were talking about. I’m now logged out and not able to edit my review, as intended.
Good to know, @MarkFleener
Stay tuned in Local Guides Connect for the news, that will appear in this post: Known Issue: Prompt to write reviews for already reviewed
Hi Mark if you have more than one account in the Local Guides Program make sure you exit the program from all but your primary. People who get discovered with more than one tend to have an unfortunate ending and it sounds like you may have inadvertently joined with a different account?
The login is universal across all Google properties and is a Google account. The same account is used for everything. Some products allow multiple accounts (e.g. YouTube, Blogger) and some don’t (e.g. Local Guides).
Regards Paul
I have a youtube account and a yahoo account.
Hi @MarkFleener ,
What @PaulPavlinovich , tried to explain you is that you should use one and the same account for the Local Guides Program, both here on Connect and for Google Maps.
Maybe I am wrong @MashaPS , @PaulPavlinovich
but what I think is that, to avoid to wrongly rewrite some review, due to a know issue, @MarkFleener wants to be logged out from Google Maps
Hi @MarkFleener the YouTube account is a Google Account which is valid for all Google services regardless of where you first created it. Go to myaccount.google.com when you’re logged in for more information. There is no issue having a Yahoo account :).
Regards Paul
I had the same problem with my account. Unfortunately, I did not get any help from Google technical support and had to delete my account completely and create a new one. After a while, I stopped using the Google system and bought a degoogled phone. Many people may think these phones don’t have access to the usual apps, but that’s not true. Depending on your needs, you can install different programs and applications. In certain cases, you’ll need to install the Google Play service to download apps like Gmail, Google Drive, Youtube, and some banking apps. At degoogledirect.com, you can learn more about some of the nuances of phones with GrapheneOS or CalyxOS.
It is not as hard as you think; you get all the instructions following the link below the login button. If you can’t do it, you can search for the instruction by yourself on Google. Unfortunately, Google doesn’t have such a friendly interface as iPhone does, but it is not as hard to use in any case. If you don’t manage to log out on your android phone, you can search for a solution at https://zumroad.com/tech. You can find many interesting articles related to smartphones there.
