How do I fix road info for roads with separate names for each side?

Hi everyone,

I’ve ran into an issue where a street on Google Maps was mislabeled, causing confusion and errors in package deliveries.

The street in question is Park Crescent in Brighton in the UK: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Park+Cres+Terrace,+Brighton/

This is a complicated road where one side, the Crescent, has house numbers from 1-48 with the road designation “Park Crescent”. Houses on the other side of the road run from 1 to 53 with the road designation “Park Crescent Terrace”.

Previously, houses seem to have had correct designations, but as of a few weeks ago, Google Maps has renamed the entire street Park Crescent Terrace, with all previous Park Crescent addresses turning into Park Crescent Terrace addresses. Searching for Park Crescent on Maps now redirects to the middle of the road, and in turn, searching for any Park Crescent Terrace address redirects to addresses belonging to Park Crescent. It’s a mess.

Going into “Report a data problem” and “Fix road info”, I’ve only found the possibility to rename the entire road, which is not the right solution – either Park Crescent or Park Crescent Road will be misrepresented.

I don’t know how it worked before but it did, so I’m not sure how to go about resolving this issue using the tools available.

Has anyone ran into this sort of issue before? How did you solve it? Is there any official guidance?

Thanks,

Adam

P.S. This is my first post here so I hope I’m putting it in the right place. Please let me know if another category is more appropriate.

I never ran into this problem before, @AdamDobay .

I was once edit the name of entire road/section.

Maybe you could edit it and add a note that describe where the error is and which road/section is which. And maybe the Google team that will try to fix this issue.

Hi @iorikun301 , yeah I tried to submit a simple road name change yesterday, it’s marked as pending so I’ll have to wait and see what happens if it goes through. If it doesn’t work I’ll try to add the note (unfortunately if you send a road name rewrite through it doesn’t let you add a note).

But yeah, it’s a big problem, just since yesterday I’ve heard two people who got deliveries to the wrong address.

Hi @AdamDobay ,

Welcome to Connect, we are happy to have you here!

When going to the “Send Feedback” of the hamburger menu, choose the “Suggest an edit to the Park Cres Terrace” (in this case) option, scroll down and choose the “Other” option. In the text box add a note with the exact error you’re facing. See the screenshot bellow:

By the way the How-tos section is exactly the right place for questions like this :). More about topics on Connect you may see here - What are Connect topics?

Hi @MashaPS , thank you for your detailed reply! I saw it after I’ve already submitted the more simple “Road name” fix, which got approved five days ago, but the road name ended up not changing. I did submit the explanation in “Other” as well since, so I’m wondering if that bit got through and if so, how long it usually takes for someone to look at it and take action.

Our local community is now quite affected, with some deliveries having gone to the neighbouring town (where there is also Park Crescent) instead of our road. So if there’s anything else I can do to expedite a fix, please let me know!

Hi @MashaPS unfortunately the solution you suggested two weeks ago has not been successful. One random bit at the end turned back into Park Crescent, but the rest of the street is still “Terrace” for both sides with duplicate addresses for each house.

Further issues have also appeared, like completely unrelated addresses showing up on our street, ie. the completely unrelated “Park Village”

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Brighton+Carpenter/@50.8327389,-0.1308316,177m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x4875859ba069ea3d:0x7411a98165aa455b!8m2!3d50.8327381!4d-0.1302844

Something has definitely gone wrong with the data here, it’s like all the things named “Park” in Brighton has sent the system haywire.

Can you please recommend what other steps I can take to ensure there’s a fix for this? Over 100 houses are affected and there is much confusion in the community.

Thank you,

Adam

Hi all,

I was surprised this morning to get a notification that the reply by @MashaPS was accepted as a solution.

Unfortunately, this problem is still not solved after three months of me first reporting it.

Residents around the street have been reporting the street, as well as their individual house addresses, for review

We have parts of the street now relabeled as Park Crescent, while the middle section is still Park Crescent Terrace.

Even worse, buildings on both side of the street are equally named Park Crescent Terrace. There’s a LOT of duplicates, and we can’t figure out why some of the addresses have been fixed and others we cannot fix no matter how many times we send them in.

I’m very frustrated by this as I’ve been diligently posting info to Google Maps for many years now and it feels wrong that the one time I run into a problem (and it’s not a small problem), I can’t get through to a human being to look at the situation and help sort it out.
