How can we use Google Maps to track the least busy times to go to the supermarket during Covid-19?

Hi,

I know there have been a lot of changes to Google Maps recently (and delays for regular features) during this strange Covid-19 time. I wanted to know how often google Maps refreshes this information, I would think there is an algorithm based on tracking users phones and the graph shows an agglomeration of that but there is nothing usual about Covid-19, people’s patterns and store openings have changed a lot.

I figured the best place to ask is here with all these Super Users.

Would anyone know?

thanks!

Hi @Hyperbunny

Great idea. I don’t know the intervals by which the busy-graphs are update, and I don’t know how the corona lock-downs have changed our shopping habits. So my best guess is to try using the current busy-graphs and evaluate if it feels sufficiently quiet when shopping.

I have been doing the shopping for our family and am surprised how few other customers I meet in the supermarkets.

Sorry I can’t give you a better answer.

ya so far I haven’t seen that the usual graphs are valid because they’ve closed the shops earlier where I live and they closed Sundays. Was hoping a Googler would see this and be able to let us know if they’ve taken this into account to make changes on the maps?
