How and Why to add Google Maps links to your post

Hello dear Local Guides beginners!!!

Following an amazing 10 Days Writing Challenge, I would be happy to post the topic of “how and why to create Google Maps links for your posts”, dedicated to begginers on Connect (as I am too so it might be useful for me as well).

First of all, Connect is a right place to share your experience, discoveries, to engage with other Local Guides around the world and in your area, to to ask questions and give feedbacks to any of the posts. How to start and to publish your first amazing posts have a look at this useful article “How do I write a post on Connect?”.

Once, you are set up with the topic, after having read a great post “What are Connect topics?”, and picture, after having read simle and great tips on “Uploading a photo on Connect”, while writing your first posts, it is interesting to add some links to a subject you are into, using Google Maps.

I didn’t understant it in the begging, but then I started to see that other LG (Local Guides) posts look much more interesting with the links to the places they describe, cause they look like the street or shopping sings in their texts, helping you to be guided to the right place mentioned in your post.

Here in connect we can use the links from Google Maps, from other Local Guides posts, from our own Google Photo Albums. And the way how to do it best described in the solution comment to “How to add link to my body post?”, but I would like to present the phone version of it.

For example you would like to write a post about your visit to the museum, let it be Louvre Museum in Paris.

In this case I would hiiiighly recommend you to add the link from Google Maps for Louvre Museum, so one can see the pictures, the working hours and the destination directly from Google Maps.

In order to bring this idea into life here are very simple instructions:

1. Type “Louvre Museum” in Google Maps and you will find not only the destination, but also “Share” option of this place.

2. Choose share option.

  1. With this option you can easily copy the link of Louvre Museum.

  1. Once you copied the link to your place, go to Connect page of you post and select the text referred to Louvre Museum.

5. Chose Insert/Edit Button on the top of your post.

6. Place your colied link to the first line “Insert the link” and you will see that the “Text to desplay” will be the text you have selected in your post.

7. Press OK Button and you are done!

Congratulations on upgrading you posts with the great links from Google Maps!!!

PS. Optionally, you can add a title or change the “Target” (open the link in current or new pae) on the Insert Link page, it might help your readers to keep their current page and surf on other pages.

Well, I hope that might be helpful to somebody! ?

If you have any other difficulties in writing, editing, adding your magnificent posts or your contributions to the Google Maps, please, feel free to ask you question in General Discussion and Local Guides team will be happy to help you!

Wow @uavalentine ,

Sounds like you designed your post using a design software… It is amazing. Each n every line is at correct place.

I must say that #Adrian started a great campaign.

I usually reply to members and open link in new page is my one of the best favorite tool in connect. Sometimes we need to keep our old post and want to see new in link. This is very useful section BTW.

Thanks again.

Thank youuuuuuuuu @deepakjhic ! I am glad you liked it! )) It took me a while to write the post like that )) Little bit technical for me ))))

You are totally right about new page section! Me, personally, I think it should be set by default.

So I have added that section too due to you!

All all all the best,

Great How To post, @uavalentine , is beautiful that you wanted to spend your time for writing it.

BTW, I agree with @deepakjhic that the best choice is “open on a new page”, We already asked to make that one the default setting

Saludos Farid

Thank you very much @ErmesT ! Trying to learn from the Challege. It was a good experience.

And yes, opening the link in a new window would be a good option by default, more convenient for sure.

All all all the best,
