Thank you for writing up this post. I am not sure I can agree with the idea of feeding stray cats. Where I am living here in Japan, local government and community has taken a strong stance against feeding stray cats. One big reason is that they destroy residential gardens, and for people who don’t garden will never understand what it feels like to lose an entire garden.
When feral cats get regular meals everyday from strangers, they do not hunt rats or rodents. They become dependent on free food. Another problem is that they have territorial fights with other cats and they make loud noises in the night.
The most responsible way to deal with stray cats is to catch them and have them neutered and sent to an NGO for adoption, or set free back into the community and only given food during winter months.
That is the best thing to do.
I guess they were causing seriously problems there. As you mentioned, works are carried out with the Municipalities to capture and sterilize. Thanks for your super answer…
