Hotel Junkie Notes: The 4 Best Yogyakarta Luxury Hotels of 2019

One night I was curious about how many hotels my 8-year-old daughter had stayed in, from my initial guess of 20, my real count show more than 70 hotels! and I then wondered how many hotels I have personally tried both myself and with my family, and the number made me think “well, i am a hotel junkie”.

Might as well share my experience then, so this is it my first article on hotels ever. Happy to share it with fellow local guides.

For those of you who want to travel to Yogyakarta and prefer to stay in luxury star hotels, I have prepared a list of the 4 best luxury hotels in Yogyakarta. You can never go wrong with these 4 hotels. I have tried all the hotels I have listed here, some hotels even more than once or twice. So when i recommended it, i use my own exeperience and i don’t take it lightly.

  1. Sheraton Mustika Yogyakarta

In its day, this hotel was arguably the grandest hotel in Yogyakarta. This hotel has a very large area, from the side of the Adisucipto road to the hotel lobby, the distance is quite far and we are presented artwork in the form of statues on the left and right which make the trip to the lobby feel very luxurious and elegant.

But now this hotel is arguably no longer in its golden age. The renovations that were really needed were only recently available, so some parts of the hotel still really needed repair. I had the opportunity to try two types of rooms yesterday, pool access rooms and deluxe rooms that have just been renovated. I was split, I really loved the newly renovated room, while for the old room I couldn’t recommend it.

What made me put Sheraton Mustika on the list was the beautiful, spacious and clean swimming pool, the friendliness of the staff, and the very complete breakfast. You can find almost everything there with delicious taste. I really hope that later the overall renovation will take place, but in the meantime, make sure you book a newly renovated room.

  1. Melia Purosani Hotel

You could say this hotel has long been the only five-star hotel in Yogyakarta. Location wise, this is arguably the best. It is just a walk away to get to Beringharjo Market and Mirota Batik.

I stayed there three times, tried various types of rooms from standard, premium, and suite rooms. Last time I was there, I was impressed with the renovations being made, almost like a new hotel. From the start of the facade that is tidied up to the rooms and public areas. We can feel a comfortable and luxurious atmosphere. The improvements are very real.

The room is quite spacious, the service is good, and the food is good. Ask for rooms on the highest floor with the best view leading to the pool. It’s better to ask for a Premium room, its location in a corner so that the view is even better.

  1. Marriot Yogyakarta Hotel

This is the newest luxury hotel in Yogyakarta. When I came from Surabaya to try this hotel, the first impression was the location and access that were not as easy and not as strategic as I imagined. Signers need special attention. As for location, indeed I can understand if now spacious land is rare in the city of Jogjakarta, so hotel owners must use what they have.

From the time you arrive at the lobby until the check-in process is quite good, but once you arrive at the new room you can feel the luxury of a 5-star hotel. The rooms are amazing, spacious, with all kinds of sophisticated amenities. The design is contemporary with an elegant touch of cream. The public area was spectacular, the pool was one of the best in Yogyakarta especially kids pool. Buffet was good. If only the service level can be standardized across all employees from the valet parking to the bell boy, this can be my new favorite luxury hotels in Yogyakarta.

  1. Tentrem Hotel

Hands down, this is the best luxury hotel in Yogyakarta. Please don’t judge the book by it’s cover or it’s name. I know the name ‘Tentrem’ may be far from the description of a luxury hotel, but after I tried to stay there, now the name ‘Tentrem’ for me is synonymous with luxury hotels with the best local touches in Indonesia.

What distinguishes Tentrem from the others, from the moment we set foot in the hotel to entering the room, all experiences are superb. We can feel the luxury of this hotel. There is still a wow effect when we enter this hotel and finally arrive at the room.

This hotel is owned and operated by a Local Entrepreneur, so for me it makes this hotel more unique, because running a hotel is not an easy business, and for local businessmen to achieve high standard for five star hotels, its simply amazing. For anyone who wants to try Luxury Hotels with Javanese nuances that are very authentic in Indonesia, try Tentrem. You will not regret.

Thank you for sharing another great tips and information with us. Do you know about the hotel near Candi Borobudur? I forgot the name but I heard it’s amazing there.

thanks @AngieYC … Highly appreciate it…

Do you mean ‘Aman Jiwo’? It is the most exclusive and luxurious Resort in Java island and located near borobudur… Sadly i haven’t got the chance to try it so it wasn’t listed on my recommendation… Other good hotel near borobudur is Plataran…also I didn’t consider Both Plataran n Aman Jiwo because both were located on Magelang-Central Java and not on Yogya, even though you can commute there from Yogya easily (1hr drive)…

Cheers
