Hot Chocolate at home?! I'll take one!

If you’re a chocoholic like me, you’re going to love making this hot chocolate at home. Although it may already be warm in certain parts of the world, this recipe is a keeper and a must try in my humble opinion. Technically, its spring where I live but we still get some snow now and then. And that’s enough reason for me to keep making this.

Here’s all the ingredients you are going to need to make this -

  1. Full fat milk – 1 cup

(If you’re lactose intolerant, feel free to replace it with a non-dairy milk)

  2. Cacao Powder – 1 tbsp

(Cacao powder is different from unsweetened cocoa powder in the sense that cacao powder is processed at low temperatures so that its nutritional benefits are preserved. I highly recommend using cacao powder for this recipe).

  3. Any sweetener – 1 tbsp

(White sugar, coconut sugar, jaggery powder etc will work well. Add more to make the drink sweeter.)

  4. Coconut oil – 1 tsp

(Coconut oil adds healthy fats and makes this drink thicker, because who doesn’t enjoy a thick hot chocolate? :slightly_smiling_face: However, if you dislike the taste of coconut oil, feel free to skip it)

    Procedure -

    1. Start by adding the cup of milk into a saucepan on low-medium heat.

    2. After about 2 minutes or so, add the other 3 ingredients and whisk this mixture until everything is incorporated well into the milk.

    3. Let it warm up on low-medium heat for another 4-5 minutes or so. There’s no need to boil this.

    4. Pour into a cup. Add whipped cream on top (optional).

    5. Enjoy!

This warm drink is not only indulgent but loaded with anti-oxidants and good nutrients from cacao powder and coconut oil. I hope you give this a try and let me know your thoughts! Thanks for reading! :slightly_smiling_face:

Haha glad to hear! :slightly_smiling_face: It does taste good, in my opinion. However, you could just start with half a teaspoon of coconut oil, or even less, if you’re worried about the taste. If you like it, you could build up from there. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi @Sheetal_RS

Thanks for sharing. It looks really delicious! :slightly_smiling_face: I almost never take or make a hot chocolate, because it’s so sweet for me I can barely drink it all. But I love chocolate as well.

I’ve tried to think of less sweet versions to make this. I like the sound of the coconut, so maybe I’ll use a coconut milk instead of whole milk. I’ve done it before with almond milk and that’s also pretty nice. Do you try different variations or is this your favorite one?

Thanks @DanniS ! Haha, I get what you mean. I usually avoid anything that’s too sweet as well. However, I’m partial to anything with chocolate in it :slightly_smiling_face: Honestly, I haven’t tried other versions yet. I would love to try it sometime using almond milk or adding some coffee to it. Coconut milk sounds wonderful too. Do let me know if you like it in case you try. :slightly_smiling_face:
