Home Made Sri Lankan Vegetable Roti Also Known as Elawalu Roti

Dough Ingredients

1 cup all purpose flour

salt

water

vegetable oil 1/2 cup

How to make Dough

combine flour, salt and add enough water to make dough. “Dough should not wet”

Then dough divided to small pieces and ball it then dip in oil and put a side at least 30 minutes.

Filling Ingredients

2 Large boiled Potatoes skins removed and cut small cubes

1 onions chopped

salt

turmeric

pepper

Ginger chopped 1 tsp

garlic chopped 2 tsp

curry leaves

How to make Filling

First mash potatoes put a side

Then Stir Fry the onions, ginger, garlic in a pan under medium heat then put salt, turmeric and pepper to taste mix well then put mash potatoes and mix again.

Now our filling and dough is done So we can make our veg roti

let’s start,

first you have to stretch your roti ball in a plate

Then put the filling into the middle of the dough

According to the shape you desire fold the edges to cover the filling

Heat a nonstick pan over medium heat and put some oil in it then cook the roti all the sides till each side turn in golden brown.

Try this with ginger pain tea it’s very delicious.

In Pakistan we have similar dish with different name “Aaloo waley Parathey” , and it’s my favorite meal in breakfast.

In my whole stay in Colombo , I tried to taste authentic Srilankan food, I don’t remember the names, but I remember a gravy with the main ingredients of Chicken, Coconut and other things, I tried it at somewhere at Galle Face road.

Vegetable roti is snack or short eats in Sri Lanka so we can eat anytime as usually I eat this for dinner or breakfast.
