Home address pending approval

I added my home address as there is only one other address which is available on my road (“The Willows”). I made the edit back on 6th May and it is still pending now (5th July). I have read that another local guide is picked at random and that they have to verify the edit before it will be shown, but my concern is that I live in a small village on a private road and I can’t imagine there are many local guides here to verify, meaning that it is highly unlikely that my own address will be approved.

Is there any other way I can have this approved? Are there any automated systems which might approve it in time?

Hi @Chris_Cope

See how you can add your home address and work place to Google Maps here:
Set or change your home & work addresses.

Private homes should never be attempted added as a pin on Google Maps. Only businesses and places with public access are eligible to have a listing On Google Maps.

The verification of legitimate places very seldomly needs another local guide for approval. Instead Google looks up the phone number in reverse and checks the web address you added.

@Chris_Cope

What do you mean when you say “adding an address” ?

Are you trying to add your home or just to fix the position of the pin?

In the first case, as indicated by @MortenCopenhagen , you cannot add your home in Google Maps if it is not a business listing. You can of course add your home and work position, but this information is visible only to you, to help your navigation.

In the second case, here is the procedure to follow: Fix a missing address or wrong pin location

The procedure is available in Android and desktop, but not in iPhone and iPad

That is strange.

I followed a guide specifically spelling out how to add a home address in order to have my home on the map.

“The Willows” (two or three houses away from me and not a business) is on the map and searchable.

There are whole streets near here which have every house number visible on the map.

It certainly looks like you can have your address on the map, and I’m tired of telling people “search for “The Willows” and we’re a couple of houses away from that” when they come to visit.

example;

https://www.google.com/maps/@51.4312486,0.2602833,19.71z

Most of the house numbers on the above street are numbered, labelled as “Building”. This is what I want for my house.

That place, @Chris_Cope (I am not sharing the link to protect your privacy) should not be in maps, as it is a private house, classified as a Building (a container for businesses).

If someone was telling you that it is possible to add your home in Maps, it was telling something wrong. Please read: Places you can’t add to the map

Again, if you want to fix your address, follow the steps in Fix a missing address or wrong pin location

There are hundreds of houses marked in exactly that way just in my local area. How have they been added/approved?

Ah wait, the “Fix Address…” link you sent me is exactly what I did. That’s the guide I followed.

Add a new address

  1. On your computer, open Google Maps.
  2. Click Menu
  3. At the bottom, click Edit the map > Wrong pin location or address.
  4. Move and center the map on the address you want to add.
  5. Enter the address information.
  6. To submit, click Send.

Having done that, this is what I’m seeing now;

New address
PENDING · Map marker · Category · Doesn’t exist · Address
Google is verifying your edit

Yes I know, it can takes time @Chris_Cope . Thanks for confirming the procedure followed by you.

There is another option, but it can takes time too: Inviting the authorities to partner with Google by submitting their own official map in Google Maps.

The procedure is here: Get started with Geo Data Upload . This procedure give the possibility to many types of organizations to submit an updated “official” map in Google maps

Hi @Ajaysaini3

What you suggested here is not correct. Only businesses can hope to get verified. Private homes can not.

After doing some reading it sounds like houses with names but not numbers are doomed to be un-searchable in google maps. Is this correct?

I find it frustrating that I can navigate happily to my parents house (numbered) but have to share map coordinates for people to find my house. Even then, google maps on android auto tends to choose the centre of the village as the destination, not the actual coordinates.

Chris

I have this exact problem. A couple of decades ago, the post office decided to remove our “mailboxnumbers” from the adress, and told us to “name” the houses. So there ARE NO NUMBERS. It’s kind of a “region” or “village” area called Stora Almby, and the houses are named Stora Almby Hageby, Store Almby Gripbacken, Stora Almby Grandboda and Stora Almby Höjens, plus a few more.

I’ve numerous times tried to get this edit into Google maps but it won’t work, and hence, delivery people don’t know how to find our house. Even worse, all they get a hit for is - you guessed it - some kind of average spot for the entire “Stora Almby” area, which is an unhelpful spot along a road in the middle of a forest with no house in sight.

Sigh.
