Holi - The Festival of Love and Colors

Holi is the festival of love, joy & colors and is celebrated throughout India and abroad. This is the festival of togetherness which has power to repair broken relationship also. Celebration of Holi starts in evening of the Purnima (Full Moon day) falling in month of Falgun (Feb./March of the Gregorian calendar) with Holika Dahan (rituals in front of the bonfire symbolic of destruction of evil). Next day, people visit family, friends and even opponent to celebrate it by playing colors and throwing Gulal (colored powders) on each other without discrimination of caste, creed, religion or financial status while enjoying drums or other musical instruments.

I want to discuss Holi of Mandawa, District Jhunjhunu State Rajasthan which I got opportunity to celebrate. It was a mega event as whole community of Mandawa comes out of houses to celebrate it. Mandawa having its presence on global tourism map and tourist from all over the world come Mandawa to join Holi celebrations and making it a global fraternity festival. Best attraction of procession carried outonthe day of Holi are dancing horse, dancing camel, dancing men with colorful turban, cross-dress dancing men and most important overall decent environment having well-managed crowd where female enjoys the procession without any hick or incident of eve teasing
