Holi Celebration in a village of India

Holi , a festival of joy and happiness. It is a festival in India which knows no boundaries of financial status, cast, religion or state. When It is celebrated with family members and friends then it doubles the joy. In my past years, I got several opportunities to celebrate Holi in cities, but this Holi, I got an opportunity to celebrate it with my in-laws in their village. Although, they don’t have as much facilities as found in cities but I found same level of joy and happiness among natives , as I found in cities. They enjoyed it by making a pond and filling it with water, bucket after bucket. They threw themselves / friends in It, believe me it was really great. There was also DAHI HANDI, a big pot made of clay and filled with DAHI (CURD) and hung over the pond. Many teams try to break it by standing each member on other, as LORD KRISHNA did, The team breaks it, is the winner. In some ways, I found it more interesting because in the morning we played with wet colors and in evening, all members of village, visited us with new dresses and dry color (ABEER or GULAL

which is not permanent and can be removed easily) and put it on your feet , if you are elder to them or a lady to show respect, or on your forehead and cheeks if they are elder to you or of same age and hug/embrace you. Visitors are also offered sweets / toffees / homemade sweets. Feet of elders touched to obtain their blessings. I really enjoyed it and didn’t felt any lack of modern facilities. It was really fantastic experience with pure feelings and happiness.
