Tucked amidst the serene Berambadi State Forest within the Bandipur National Park region of Karnataka, the Himavad Gopalaswamy Hills (Himavad Gopalaswamy Betta) is a perfect blend of spirituality, nature, and peace. Rising about 4,770 ft (1,450 m) above sea level, this hill is almost always wrapped in a cool mist, true to its name Himavad, meaning fog-covered.
At the summit stands the ancient Himavad Gopalaswamy Temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna (Gopalaswamy). Built during the Hoysala period (around 1315 CE), the temple showcases classic Dravidian architecture with intricate carvings, serene surroundings, and a divine calm that instantly soothes you.
What Makes It Special
The temple sits atop a mist-laden hill with panoramic forest views. Inside, the idol of Lord Krishna stands gracefully playing the flute. When I visited, the deity was completely covered in butter, and the fragrance and serenity inside were divine. The entire hilltop felt so cool, fresh, and misty, it was an experience that still feels alive in memory. On our way up, we even spotted an elephant peacefully grazing on the other side, a surreal reminder that you’re truly within nature’s realm.

KSRTC Bus: Visitors must use the mandatory shuttle service (₹70/person) operated by the forest/KSTC department to reach the top.
