HILL OF PATIOS
The Hill of Patios it’s a very popular road for cyclists who all days ascent this hard path. All cyclists in Bogotá know this traditional road. The road have three viewpoints, where its possible to appreciate an awesome panoramic view of the down town and north of the city. But in Bogotá its impossible to see all city in only one point because its really big.
The Sundays it’s the day where more people ascent to Hill of Patios. Because the cilcovia (an special road for to ride bycicle that only work on Sundays) in the city allow people to arrive more easily .Many cyclist and walkers ascent for to do exercise but also many families ascent in car for to lunch and see the view of the city.
The road leads toward La Calera, a village located at 27 kilometers from the Bogota’s down town. Many bicycle stores and restaurants have been created through the road. Are 8 kilometers of ascent in a constant pending of 6%-7%. The hill its 3000 msnm altitude and after descend to La Calera 2746msnm. Bogotá its 2640 msnm altitude.
The economy in La Calera is based on mining and carve the rock because the ground its limestone, the name “Calera” its another way for to say limestone in Spanish. Limestone: Caliza or Calera in Spanish. It’s also a beauty place for to buy handicrafts and winter clothes of sheep wool. Because the villages near to Bogotá are cold.
The ciclovia it’s a special program of the government of the city for to incentive the sports and an active life style. All Sundays 126 Kilometers in one or two car lane of the main streets in Bogotá are closed and only work for the cyclists, walker and their pets. One and a half million people use the ciclovia all sundays this give life to the city and allows people to participate in it.
I’m a localguide from Colombia, I document this site because I’m a cyclist and drone photographer and I love share the beautiful places that I visit when I travel.
