I travel a lot both for work and pleasure, and at a lot of times, I find myself having to do things alone. Invariably I turn a lot to social media and blogs to help find some unique places and spots - roll credits - something the locals would know. This leads me to discover local guides and becoming a participant myself. Here I share some of the more memorable finds in my journey around the world so far.
This picture is from the children playground at Amsterdam Airport. This is a much-overlooked gap when children travel and end up with an extended stopover. Distractions are the name of the game. The Wifi at airports is deplorable at best. Plus these days, you can get your TV and Movie fix on the flight. This kid-friendly play area is perfect for parents who want their kids to stretch their legs in a safe and confined environment, while the parents themselves catch a breather.
Fancy socks are almost always an ice breaker a lot of times. I usually used to purchase these from fast fashion brands. However, during a recent trip to Walmart in Maryland, I stumbled upon these. You can safely assume I ended up purchasing one of each. This also makes for a not so typical entry into the Google Local guides entry.
Dubai is a city I have lived my entire life. There have however been times where I have surprised myself and my childhood friends. This was one of those moments where we were in search of a deal we stumbled upon this amazing restaurant and bar with a view of the spectacular Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Fountains. Called The Lounge, the service and the staff at this place was exemplary. A definitely must visit for a tourist or even a long termer.
I have to end with my most recent find which is thanks to maybes friend living in San Francisco, Bar Bocce in Sausalito. She insisted on my trying the Calamari, which was no exaggeration, out of this world. It is a must-have if you ever on a tour of the Golden Gate or on your way back from Napa.
