I love exploring my local community (Astoria, Queens in NYC, USA) and popping into a new restaurant for a bite or seeing what a new shop has to offer. There are always businesses opening up around me which can make every trip outside exciting and interesting.
But because of the frequent changes and new storefronts many people who are looking online for shopping or eating options could miss these new hidden gems. That’s why I always appreciate the prompt from Google Maps to review and add photos from the establishment. I think the personal testimonial and photos from the inside add an extra layer of understanding that may make the online browser stop, take notice and feel enticed to come explore this new found opportunity.
Google has expanded the online and offline experience in such a way that every store or location now can have their own personal ambassador that makes those who find them online feel like they too are getting a personal recommendation. A guide to the best stops and spots for them.
Additionally, the ability to answer questions has allowed me to help an individual who may be looking for more detailed information than the store’s website or listing provides. Over 200 times I’ve jumped on and helped out in this way which is an incredible ability to solve someone’s problem in the moment and really help them make the most informed choice possible.
I love that Google Maps is evolving and that we as guides can contribute to that process.
