Its Lockdown so I’m using my time in the garden to take some macro pictures of the hover flys in flight, not easy as they are about 15mm and move so quick.
Great picture.
@Hgog great capture. How did you manage to do it? Is it usually difficult to capture shots like this?
Thank you for your kind words, i used my Olympus em1 11 and a 60 mm macro lens, i watched the fly for an hour to see its behaviour and it kept landing on the same bush so i focused the lens on the bush and kepted my finger halfway down on the shutter then when i saw it in my perifial vision i moved the focal point from the bush to the fly and pressed the shutter. Don’t get me wrong i took many that where out of focus.
Hope you are safe where ever you are in the world and take care.
Neil
Thank you very much for your kind words.
Neil
@Hgog wow. It seems you require patience. Good work mate.
Stay safe
I know how hard to take a photo like this @Hgog well done!
That’s brilliant @Hgog and thank you for sharing how you did it. I must try it one day myself. I’m most willing, but not sure if I am able…such patience you have!
@Hgog Great!
Hi @Hgog
Cool capture! Could you tell us what camera you used and how you made this shot? Macro photos are really amazing! I love the simplicity and the details as well. Do you take a lot of macro photos or have you recently started to experiment with it?
Please share more photos, I’d love to see what you’ve created
@DanniS Hi DanniS i use an Olympus em1 mark 11 you can us most micro four thirds lens of any length to be honest to take a macro shot but my preferred lens for close ups is the 60 mm Olympus 1:2.8 it can be manually adjusted from 0.4m- to infinity and as close as 1-1.
I feel you have to learn and watch your subject, for example the hover fly in flight, I watched it for about an hour and learned its pattern and where it landed, then I forced on the landing pad and kept my finger half way down on the shutter to keep the focus then followed the fly in the lens, it was about 300mm away.
the butterfly was very hard to do as they are less common but i did get a good sun tan taking that one.
dont get me wrong there where many shots out of focus and it can be frustrating but the rewards are fantastic, il post some i took yesterday soon.
Hope you are keeping safe during these difficult times.
Neil.
This is a real achievement to capture the insect in flight!
And you must have had a great dose of luck, @Hgog .
Congratulations!
Best regards!
