Heroes and Legends - NASA Astronauts Hall of Fame

Heroes and Legends is the name for the Hall of Fame for Astronauts within the Kennedy Space Center that I visited in June 2023.

This is a place where American astronauts are remembered and honored.

Space exploration is amazing.

I’m so happy I decided to go visit and see them in their fame.

Informative area about the astronauts and the missions they completed.

It put into perspective the volume of astronauts and also the missions.

I learnt about the lives of the space heroes and see their original belongings.

This exhibit hall was created by the Mercury Seven astronauts.

As I walked among these heroes, I felt inspired.

It’s sad that so many have gone to the skies forever, but their legacies and stories shall be with is forever.

There are few movies upon walking in there along with a Redstone rocket and vehicle capsules to see.

In the end of the exhibit, I saw the names of all those inducted into the hall of fame.

A couple of inspiring videos with the heroes of the aerospace videos and some exhibits with the old tech made for a nice way to spend half an hour.

Top Tips and Alerts

  1. Parking cost are a steep $10-15 depending on the vehicle.
  2. You can bring your own food and drinks in the park.
  3. Don’t miss the free bus tour that takes you to where they actually build the rockets.
  4. Do the simulation rides first in the morning since they get super crowded after 12 noon when most people come back from the free tour buses.
  5. Also, some of the cafes close early, which can limit your dining options if you prefer to have a late lunch or snack.
  6. Visited here on a weekend since most people would head to other major attractions like Disney world and Universal Studio on a weekend.

Great pictures and documentation of the KSC! It may be worth noting that this is not in Orlando but Merritt Island, over an hour east of the city. I hope you had a great time, it’s a really great place!

Thank you for the insightful comment @marinaoboyle .

Appreciate it.

For an international traveler like me it is Orlando, from a bird’s eye view

I will include this bit of information in the main post.

and yes, I do remember there being a bridge - a new one that opened recently, and they showed us the old one too form the tour bus.

Did you visit KSC too?

Another nice travel article, dear @TusharSuradkar Ji,

Surely, this is really inspiring and informative.

Of course, the stories of the Heroes & Legends can’t be completed in a short visit… I have read about a couple of their missions - jaw dropping.

Imagining that man reached Moon during the gas tube age (transistors were just born then) is little undigestable for me even today.

Well, I enjoyed reading your great post and thank you for sharing these.

Best regards

Same here @TravellerG

I too do not deny that humans laded on the moon.

But I asked this question to several US citizens.

How do they need several days of preparation to lift off from earth but they simply “came back” from the moon- using the same vehicle, a capsule without a rocket?

Agreed that gravity on moon is very low compared to earth, but how did they just return with just 2 men to prepare for the return journey out there, whereas out here on earth there are dozens to take care of the lift off into space to attain the right altitude, direction and then and maneuvering along the correct trajectory.

Thank you once again for your attentive and insightful comments

Your questions are from many of mine…

May be we are wrong…

Well, feeling proud today, of Chandrayan 3… We lived in this era…

Of course, the success is from the studies of different failures…

Once again thanks for your valuable response and support, my dear @TusharSuradkar Ji.
