Help needed - Finding lists

Hi. Apologies for posting in what might be the “wrong place”. I’m trying to find lists of places to visit - particularly in London, my home city. I can’t find an easy way to do this. Is there something I am missing ? Is there any form of directory or “Top lists” for a city. I think this would be an incredibly useful feature and really expose Google Local Guides for what we are - brilliant nodes for helping others find places to visit.

Any help gratefully received.

Ross.

@rossb82 Great idea, but I think you only can see lists which are public and if the person who made the list or someone else share with you the link of the list. Like this is my list of pet friendly places in my city: https://www.google.com/maps/placelists/list/ufp_b-4RuDnPJ9NSTmYy4Hmo-tu7dg?hl=pt

I suggest to you do a post of your idea on Idea Exchange too.

Hi @rossb82 . Top 20 Things To Do For Free in London. This is on Lonely Planet website lonleyplanet.com. There are museums and lots of interesting things to do. Obviously you have the usual tourist areas such as, Buckingham Palace and Hyde Park but you probably know this already if London is your Home Town. I’m not even from London. Enjoy Exploring London @rossb82

Thank you - appreciate you taking time to reply.

I think that’s great but what I really want to do is find that list under a directory for London. Or to follow fellow London Local Guides and see when they publish a new list e.g. “Great place to go for coffee in South London”. I’d then have a real incentive to create and update lists knowing that they were helping others.

Hopefully team at Google listening (I have posted this elsewhere as well!)

Hi @rossb82 ,

Why you don’t create some new lists for such great city of London (which I really love and miss).

You can add new ones that shares your city experience, and of course this will help a lot of people around the world to explore the best of London!

Existing list should be shown during a search for a keywords, but currently no specific search results for lists only, as far as I know!

If you need help, about how to create a new list, let me know…

Regards,

Shady

Thanks @ShadySalama

I’ve actually created a large number of lists but these are very hard to see because they aren’t added to a directory or visible on my public profile. For example, I imagine you’ve made lots of lists but I can’t see any of yours from your profile.

I didn’t know you could search for them, maybe that will help a bit.

Thanks

Ross.

@rossb82 .Hiya Ross, I’m not really sure. The Google Moderators work Monday to Friday. Maybe put your question in the topic marked, How To Or the topic marked Help Desk, the topics list are across the top of page and they will probably get back to you. I imagine here on Connect, it wouldn’t be practical to have lists on every city in the world. Try to google, London Local Guides and see what comes up that’s what I did here, I just googled, Dublin Local Guide and it came up and I joined. Although its an unofficial one on Google Plus and more to do with creating albums on subjects of interest then people follow them. Sure give it a go and see what you find on London Local Guides

Hi @rossb82 ,

I got what you mean, ad I have been asking this question for quite some time.

In Maps, it is still in the Data Collection phrase regarding Lists.

The tools for us to discover public lists are not there yet (anyone know how to discover them, please do share).

The best I can do now, is to follow or search for the ‘#letsguide’ hashtag. As Maps has been asking us to use this hashtag since March for any special places that people should visit.

Hope it helps!

Hi @rossb82 ,

If you take a look on Google Maps you can find what you are looking for by using the Explore tab. You can read more about it here.

You can also check @YK1001 's reply and decide for yourself which is the best place to visit in London. Enjoy the city!

SampsonF - THANK YOU. You provided the clue how to find public-shared lists.

When a list-creator shares a list … Public … to Twitter/Instagram/etc … and also adds hashtag #letsguide, then it is … at least … discoverable on that social media platform. For example, search #letsguide and a city, you will see matches. Some may be reposts by Google Connect, others will be direct posts from the list-creator.

This system is not user-friendly. Perhaps Google will improve it in the future, but this is the only public-search I can find. Otherwise the list-creator must share their list with specific people. (Not exactly “public” as the word impies.)

Yes I have to agree that Google needs to make it easier to find lists especially those that are marked as Public. See my post here Google Maps Lists - It’s Crazy, Public is not Public!
