@NareshDarji & @MortenCopenhagen
Hello sir,
If I add a photo of a place within a city area, that photo can be viewed directly by clicking on that city. Is there any problem with posting like this? And there is no option to post directly to a city area or village. How did you post this post of yours?
I was a beginner in me, but I’m trying to improve myself thanks to my very valuable helpful brothers. You can review my page. Let your own ideas be original. @KashifMisidia I won thanks to this app as the teacher.
Thanks for asking.
When one of your photos uploaded to a business or place inside a city also gets shown under the city you can be proud. There is a dedicated AI selecting some of the “best” photos to also represent the city. In my experience this AI prefers photos with saturated colors and a deep blue sky.
Some users attempts to upload their photos directly to cities, city districts, and even countries or streets etc. Uploading pics/videos directly to areas is against the guidelines and can get you in trouble. The way to avoid the is to open the place page and check if there is an upload a photos/video button or link. If yes, then go a head and upload your photo or video. If not, then don’t upload it to this area.
If you find it difficult to see what is a normal pin/place/business and what is an area please see this discussion.
I hope this helps.
Hi @SubhadipHanra
It is generally not best practice to add photos in cities or villages in that manner. @MortenCopenhagen has already provided a comprehensive answer to your query. Regarding the picture you mentioned, I acknowledge that I made an mistake when I was new to the program. I do not recall the specific time I added this photo.
Hello @SubhadipHanra and @NareshDarji,
in addition to @MortenCopenhagen’s explanation:
Some of our photos are not only shown at the pin of the city surrounding a POI where we posted it, but also at the area, county, region and even the country. You may find them by opening one of those pins and select the “By You” (German “Von mir”) Tab:
You will be surprised, how many of you photos you see there. The bigger the area (e.g. country), the more of your photos you see.
Furthermore, I identified some (very few) photos, which don’t even show up under the listing where I uploaded them to, but they do gain views - probably all from those geographical features.
Regarding:
While it is possible, you made a mistake @NareshDarji, it is much more likely, you did not do anything wrong according to what @MortenCopenhagen and I explained above.
Hi @WilfriedB
I did not mention the “By you” tab as I noticed it was no longer available in all 3 platforms some months back.
If you open an area like https://maps.app.goo.gl/ob4dPCGwNcm5KsH8A on Android I can no longer find the By you tab. First scroll right on the photos then tap See all.
Strange. Bug or feature, @MortenCopenhagen?
Anyway, in the Android Maps app, I don’t find it neither, but opening the link in the Samsung Web browser (Chrome redirects to the app, but Chrome on PC shows “By you” too):
Unfortunately, I cannot try it with Copenhagen, since my last visit is 14 years ago
Yes, I’m aware it is still available on web, but I think the majority of users use apps and mobile devices, and staying in the browser on phones can be a challenge.
All good.
Hello @SubhadipHanra,
I do agree with what @MortenCopenhagen explained in that case. Photos can’t be posted to the cities, and it takes the best images based on the algorithms.
There is nothing wrong you have done @NareshDarji.
Back in 2016, I uploaded photos directly to the polygons and there was a way to do so, but the maps team has changed the rules and now it is not possible.
Good day
I suspect this is on purpose and not a bug. The number of people who know about and use this feature must be very small. And I guess it is a balancing act with needed server resources. I would love to have the By you tab reinstated in mobile apps.
You are right @deepakjhic
Previously we have a option to add photos in the polygons. But now Google has changed the policy.
Hello sir, @NareshDarji
You probably posted the photo in 2017, which was not your fault because photos and videos could be posted at that time. @MortenCopenhagen According to Sir’s opinion
But in my case I had posted so many posts like this that I didn’t know I had done so recently.I am sharing my post and please tell me about the place. I will delete my post if it doesn’t stay.
@WilfriedB and @MortenCopenhagen
Just out of curiosity, I can see my photos on Android Google maps and yes on Desktop. Is this a regional or country thing?
Hi Terry
If this is the place: https://maps.app.goo.gl/FpT6RMvhrDsaUPiMA
Then it’s a geographical feature = an area. You can determine this by checking if there is a button or link to add photos/videos.
If this is not the place, please share the Maps link.
Hello @TerryPG if your screenshot is from the Maps app, then it still works for you. For @MortenCopenhagen and myself, we only see the “By you” tab on the web browser.
I think, you can tell also from the screenshot, because the photos are clearly showing different places, such as a church, a gas station and several quite different store fronts.
Yes correct @MortenCopenhagen it is a city , a geographical place.
