Having Breakfast in China

Chinese have surely different breakfast habits compared to Western people. In Milan, in addition to classic Italian breakfast, I was used to have sometimes breakfast in specific Chinese breakfast places, by eating baozi, xiao long bao or noodles and by drinking soy milk. Obviously I wanted to replicate my Chinese breakfast habits in China too: it was not much a surprise as most of Chinese breakfast options can be found in Milan too (being Milan home to a large Chinese community), but of course, having it in China is more special: and some dishes aren’t exactly the same in Milan.

1.) Salted Noodles With Eggs & Vegetables

Let’s start with a really yummy dish, which are these salted noodles with eggs & vegetables. Being in Hunan, I have obviously been able to ask them VERY SPICY, the way I like them!

2.) Sweet Tofu

As I really love tofu, I couldn’t miss to have some sweet tofu: it’s soft Chinese tofu mixed with sugar. The taste is quite similar to soy milk ordered in a Chinese tofu shop.

3.) Baozi

The already mentioned baozi, with vegetables.

4.) Xiao Long Bao

5.) Rice with century eggs

6.) 团子

Let’s conclude with 团子, made with rice flour.

@user_not_found These dishes looks soo yummmyy . Thanks for all of the pictures. I will love to taste chinese breakfast in my future, i just love to eat new cuisines …

As always, your post is brilliantly written and full of interesting informations, @user_not_found , and not to forget the picture are beautiful shot, which of course is not a surprise! I do appreciate a salty breakfast here and there, but I’ve never started my day with a spicy one. It’s probably a great way to clear your mind and walk up in the morning. If you have to chose, which is going to be your favorite one from all the dishes that you’ve listed? Mine will probably be the noodles and the 团子.

Hi @user_not_found . I loved to read this post and it’s very nice to know more about Chinese habits. Here in Brazil, except for weekends or holidays, we don’t use to have a big breakfast. I use to eat for example a slice of bread, drink a cup of coffee and eat one fruit. On the other hand, lunch and dinner are very abundant.

It’s always so interesting and refreshing seeing the breakfast options from countries around the world - truly breaks the classic stereotypical idea that Americans such as myself have for what a morning meal should comprise of. The salted noodles with eggs & vegetables look absolutely delicious, @user_not_found .

@user_not_found , hello…Nice and yummy , mouth watering post. That salty noodle is so inviting.

thanks

Hello @KlaudiyaG

all the breakfast options are delicious. For me, I choose the noodles and the xiao long bao. When in Milan I choose xiao long bao / baozi and soy milk, as there are less noodles options (a part those for lunch), but it still depends on the place, I am still talking about one of the places in Milan to have breakfast and which is my favorite.
